Fortnite: Battle Royale offers many ways to defeat or even outwit an opponent, but let’s be frank: it almost always comes to guns. From pistols to assault rifles to that legendary rocket launcher, things that go boom are an indispensable part of the game. But which are truly the best?
As soon as you drop from the Battle Bus onto Fortnite’s colorful map, the action may start any minute, and you must be prepared. The recent vaulting of 28 guns and explosives thinned the armory somewhat but having the right gun for the job can still make a huge difference. While which weapon is “right” for you depends on your preferences, the environment and what you are facing, here’s our take on the top five that will help you get that sweet, sweet Victory Royale.
5. Bolt-Action Sniper Rifle
It was hard ranking this gun, because more so than any other in Fortnite, it is as good as its user. If you have the mechanics for it, a sniper rifle can be an incredible choice, boasting high damage and high range, alongside the satisfaction of that sweet headshot. If not… skip right down to number four. Or anything else you come across, really.
4. Rocket Launcher
It might be a bit strange at first, but the rocket launcher is as much a tool as it is a weapon. It might not be the best gun to one-shot an opponent - satisfying as that might be - but when someone has dug themselves in, a rocket is a great way to equalize the playing field. In addition to that, the large blast area makes it a good weapon to open a fight when you catch several enemies bundled together.
3. Burst Rifle (AUG)
The entry level burst rifles are not good right now, but if you get your hands on the high-end burst rifle (which is totally not based on the Steyr AUG, honest), count yourself lucky. It brings a good amount of accuracy and damage, which you can use to dominate the mid-range firefights.
2. Tactical Shotgun
Close range is where things tend to be decided, especially later in the game, and right now, the tactical shotgun is the gun to beat up close. It brings high damage at a good fire rate and is somewhat more forgiving than its pump-action cousin. It is always a good idea to keep a shotgun, and unless you are absolutely certain in your mad skills to land that single shot, this shotgun should be a tac.
1. Assault Rifle
Viable. Consistent. Versatile. The assault rifle - an old faithful of Battle Royale - is a force to be reckoned with. Boasting good damage, impressive rate of fire (on automatic) and decent accuracy, it is a good weapon for virtually every situation, and that pushes it to the top spot for us. Its epic and legendary version, the SCAR, is among the most desired drops in the game - and for a very good reason.
