Aghanim’s Labyrinth is the Dota 2 Summer Event this year and it got released just a few days ago. Today the game mode received a balance update.
After a lot of waiting the Dota 2 Summer Event is finally live. Aghanim’s Labyrinth is exactly what you’re thinking a roguelike four-player co-op mode with randomly generated dungeons. Players get a new mod for one of their spells after each cleared room and this allows them to customize their heroes. The pool of playable characters is rather small at the moment and it’s uncertain if Valve are planning to expand it. So far the heroes you can play are:
- Magnus
- Mars
- Omniknight
- Snapfire
- Tusk
- Sniper
- Ursa
- Viper
- Weaver
- Disruptor
- Winter Wyvern
- Witch Doctor
There are also unused files for Phantom Assassin, so she’s the most likely candidate to be added at a later stage.
A love letter to Siltbreaker
One of the most successful events in Dota 2 was the Siltbreaker campaign which had a similar setting. Team up with friends and go through the challenges ahead. Unlike the Labyrinth though, it followed a more linear progression and was split into two parts. The two events are also similar in something else, their difficulties.
Aghanim’s Labyrinth has a total of four difficulty levels (Apprentice, Magician, Sorcerer, Grand Magus) and a lot of players are probably still struggling with the first two. From level one onwards enemies will get a random modifier that can vary from lifesteal to random debuffs and more.

A “Gameplay” Update
As if things weren’t difficult enough already, Valve decided to pump the difficulty even higher. Today, the devs released a new patch, which nerfed a lot of abilities and talents for each of the heroes. Sure, there were some buffs, but you could hardly notice them among the wave of nerfs. Items were also put on the table and the majority of them got either more expensive or just worse. For the full notes, check the Steam community forum. It looks like elite challenges are the way to go, as their rewards might be the only way to make it past the final boss. You can check the full list of talents, room bonuses, and more here.
We can understand that Valve are trying to make the whole event experience more competitive, as in a matter of days players will be racing against each other in Aghanim’s Trial. The latter will put participants in the same randomly generated dungeon and depending on their placement they could win some exclusive rewards like a free arcana, skins, and more.
