The event
As it’s probably clear from the name, the main sponsor behind the event will be AMD. The official Dota Pit website also released a public statement regarding the event.
In 2019, we saw the first edition of the OGA Dota Pit Minor when fans were welcomed into the sunny resort which is also the second-largest city in Croatia. The place remains the same as last year – Spaladium Arena. The tournament is set between the dates of April 23 and April 26. A total of eight teams will participate and there will be at least one from each region, but the remaining two slots are still to be decided. The regional qualifiers will be held on April 2-3. As for the prize pool, it’ll be divided as follows:
- $72,000, 140 DPC points, qualified for the EPICENTER Major
- $60,000, 120 DPC points
- $54,000, 110 DPC points
- $42,000, 90 DPC points
- $24,000. 60 DPC points
- $24,000. 60 DPC points
- $12,000, 40 DPC points
- $12,000, 40 DPC points
Format
AMD Sapphire Dota Pit will follow the usual format of two GSL groups with 4 teams in each. The top two teams from each group will advance to the playoffs while the rest will be eliminated. All series in the playoffs will be a Bo3 with the exception of the grand finals which will be a Bo5. In the end, only the winner will secure a spot to the EPICENTER Major along with $72,000 and 140 DPC points. The EPICENTER Major follows right after, between May 2 and May 10. The title in the first edition of the event was taken by Ninjas in Pyjamas and there’s a high chance we’ll see them again this year.
After this reveal, there’s just one final event missing from the 2019-2020 DPC list. That’s another Minor, right before the final Major – ONE Esports Singapore. The dates for the unknown Minor are June 9-13. Whether Dota Pit will be postponed due to the coronavirus outbreak, remains to be seen.
