The highly anticipated CRPG based on Dungeons & Dragons will be in player’s hands much earlier than expected.

Gamers longing for a classic RPG in the vein of Planescape Torment and the original Baldur’s Gate series are in for a treat. Developer Larian Studios of Divinity fame has been talking about their official partnership with Wizards of the Coast for a long time, teasing us of their highly ambitious title full of choices, character progression options, and deep story.

However, when the COVID-19 crisis hit, all plans for release were thrown in the air. The original “best-case scenario” release date for Baldur’s Gate 3 was expected to be this month, and Larian has come pretty close to it, because the title is hitting Early Access on September 30.

According to the team, the sneak peek build of the game will show of a sizable portion of the final product, making the entire first act of the story playable, complete with 80 combat encounters and over 46,000 lines of dialogue. A move that’s somewhat reminiscent of Diablo III’s free-to-try model. Baldur’s Gate 3 early access will be available on Steam and Google Stadia.

Advertised as “The most authentic D&D RPG ever”, Baldur’s Gate 3 promises an epic story in the Forgotten Realms dealing with the enigmatic and creepy Cthulhu-looking monsters known as the mind flayers. The official release date for the complete experience isn’t announced yet.
