Hot news alert! David Beckham is joining the esports scene! Not as a player, although we’re sure he could bend it in video games too. He’s one of the partners behind Guild Esports – a newly found organization that will of course compete in FIFA, but has intentions of tackling Rocket League and Fortnite as well.
Famous football players trying their hand at esports is no longer a rare occasion and worldwide stars like Gareth Bale and Mesut Özil have been popularizing the virtual medium among regular football fans. But when it comes to worldwide football stars, is there really anyone bigger than David Beckham? We finally hit the big time, boys!

The Guild Esports Twitter channel went live yesterday, June 25, to reveal its basic concept – pursuing an Esports Academy structure to try and develop talent for games like FIFA, Rocket League and Fortnite. All of this will be happening from the org’s HQ in the capital of Beckham’s home country England. Finally, they unveiled the fancy animated logo:

Beckham commented on the launch of the organization as follows:
"Throughout my career I have been fortunate to work with many of the top players in their discipline and I have seen the passion and dedication it takes to play at such a level. I know that this determination can be found in esports athletes today, and with Guild we have a vision to set new standards and support players. Through our academy system we want to encourage and support young athletes and I look forward to helping our Guild team grow.”
Beckham's primary role is to help develop and implement the coaching program within the academy. He is of course also a great inspiration for the young athletes. Carlton Curtis, who formerly worked for Activision and was active in both the Overwatch and Call of Duty Leagues, is Guild’s executive chairman.
Guild’s first professional appearance in esports is expected to be some time this fall and we’re all excited to see what Becks has in store for us.
