This made BIG’s job, who won their group, a lot easier than expected. In actuality, Team Vitality and OG were the only teams to give the champions any trouble. OG beat them in the group stage, Vitality stopped BIG, or rather delayed them, in the upper playoff bracket final. The Germans came back with vengeance in consecutive games: first taking down OG in the lower bracket final and then overturning Vitality’s default map advantage in the final for a memorable 3-2 victory.

This continues BIG’s phenomenal run of form in the last couple of months. The German side won two out of three Home Sweet Home Cups (reached the final in HSH Cup 3), won the local Merkur Masters, finished as runners-up in another German tournament – ESL Meisterschaft Spring and most notably finished top at the ESL Pro League Season 12 Europe qualifier and lifted the trophy at DreamHack Masters Spring Europe. Six wins and two finals in eight attempts in the span of three months is scary form, however you might view those local and smaller events.
Cs_summit 6 America
Evil Geniuses can tell you more on the topic of scary form. The team seemed destined for roster changes just a month ago, now they are back-to-back champions at major events. The manner in which EG triumphed at cs_summit 6 is the real cracker here. One map lost for the entire tournament. One. And it came in the opening match vs. FURIA – a 30th round heartbreak on Nuke. No one else came close.

FURIA should feel extremely frustrated by their final showing before the break. This loss propelled them to two more defeats in the next three games, which left the dominant force in America in sixth place out of eight.
EG were the story of the week though. Their schedule could have used some diversity pumped into it, but you beat whoever’s in front of you. Those in the champions’ way were Team Liquid and Gen.G, both of whom were beaten twice. Gen.G Esports made it further than the Intel Grand Slam winners but could not do much in the final.
The two finalists propelled themselves into the top three in the American Regional Major Ranking where Liquid are still holding a narrow 100 point lead over Evil Geniuses.
BIG Clan, despite their championship run, are sitting at eighth in Europe because these were the first RMR points they gathered. French domination at the top with Vitality and G2 at first and second. Astralis’ points from Starladder Berlin and ESL One: Road to Rio are enough to keep them in the top three.
CS:GO professionals are now going on a well-deserved holiday which will last until August. Top tier Counter-Strike will return with DreamHack Masters Summer, beginning August 8.
