BIG Clan are back on track in the FLASHPOINT Global Qualifier. The German side picked up a pair of wins that saw them through to the semi-finals.
BIG playing up to their label
BIG Clan had a sloppy start to the FLASHPOINT Global Qualifier on the first day. The favorites were able to stand their ground better in their subsequent matches, however, and are still in with a chance of qualifying for Season 1’s main stage.
Polish side AVEZ were the first obstacle BIG needed to overcome. The Poles had lost in a spectacularly improbable fashion to Orgless the day prior and they proved their strength yet again, but came short, yet again.
BIG took both maps of this match but needed to work in order to do so. AVEZ were holding up well to a 9-10 deficit on Inferno when BIG were finally able to pull away with a five-round run that put them on map point. Third time was the charm and with a 16-11 result, BIG took control of the game.
Vertigo unfolded in a similar way. The only difference was that BIG’s run after 10-9 ended prematurely, leaving their advantage at only 13-9. AVEZ answered with three of their own to get it back to a single round deficit. That round proved to be crucial as the two teams exchanged rounds copy for copy until the end, which was just enough for BIG to cross the finish line.
This narrow win seemingly relaxed the German players and they were much more convincing in their rematch with Detona Gaming. The Brazilians’ struggles to defend on their own map pick Mirage was a highlight of why they weren’t able to make any noise in this game. The final score of 16-8 (Inferno) and 16-10 did not flatter BIG whose sights are now set on the semifinals.
Speaking of poor defense, that was the undoing of Copenhagen Flames in the Group B decider. The Danes and opponents Chaos had split the first two maps and there were promises for another interesting clash on Inferno. Instead, Copenhagen Flames produced a dud of a CT half, won just two rounds and the game finished three rounds into the second half.
The final two fixtures aka the semi-finals of FLASHPOINT Global Qualifier are going to be played later today. BIG Clan are facing off versus Finnish surprise package HAVU, then we’ll have Chaos vs. Orgless. The winners advance to FLASHPOINT Season 1’s group stage.
