Beyond The Summit have announced the next edition of their Summit series. Dota Summit 13 is coming in a week and this time it’ll be supported by Valve.

Valve, the company behind Dota 2, has been heavily criticized for the lack of action in recent months. As a result of the global pandemic, many organizations and teams had to shut down due to a lack of financing or tournaments to partake in. All LAN events were canceled and the Dota 2 competitive scene moved entirely into an online format. The biggest event of the year, The International, was also postponed to 2021. The next competitive season didn’t start this fall as it too got delayed to early 2021. This raised many questions but mainly – Why? Valve were already planning a regional league for the next Dota Pro Circuit and in a way, the online events were a testing ground for that. The results – it worked really well. That’s why many were shocked when Valve announced the next season won’t be starting anytime soon.

On the bright side, the company is now seen directly participating in some events. Just the other day it was revealed that Valve have partnered with Movistar Liga Pro Gaming and will be sponsoring Dota 2 events in South America.

Dota Summit 13

Next up is a rather popular tournament series that was usually reserved for teams in North America. This time it’ll be split into three regions – NA/SA, Europe/CIS, and SEA. It also gets the Valve seal of approval for its thirteenth edition.

The event will take place between October 21 and November 8 and the total prize pool for Dota Summit 13 stands at $250,000. There’s still no clear information on how many teams will be participating and the number of invitations (if any). BTS have only confirmed that open qualifiers will commence this weekend for NA, SA and SEA.

We'll be hosting open qualifiers for all 3 divisions. SEA & NA/SA's will be played this weekend, while EU/CIS will start later on. Keep an eye out for a link to signup later this week!

The previous edition, Dota Summit 12, was held back in March and it was the last major LAN event before the global pandemic hit the scene. Fnatic won the title then but the team has changed much since and their spot in the SEA region will be contested.
