Call of Duty players are familiar with the concept of Double XP weekends in their favorite game. It’s that one time when the grind is eased up a bit and you are able to get a legitimate return for your efforts by the virtue of your earnings being doubled. Right now, that does not seem to be the case.
Fake Black Friday promotions in Call of Duty
You know how when the local store or some online shop or whatever goes on this huge sale, right? But the prices still feel quite high for the alleged 50% discount, right? And people suspect foul play from the seller, right? That’s kind of what’s happening in Call of Duty right now.
A Reddit thread that quickly gathered steam reveals that there might be something fishy about the Call of Duty Double XP weekend that’s been going on since Friday evening. While normally you’d get double the amount of XP you’ve earned for the duration of the event, some users have noticed that they’re getting the exact same amount they would in a normal setting.
The 2x XP and Tiers are fake. All XP has been halved so that with 2x XP you get what you normally would. from modernwarfare
The theory is that the XP is halved before it’s earned, so when it’s doubled afterwards, it amounts to the same numbers you’d get on a non-Double XP day. Those complaining aren’t even thrashing Activision for this, they’re just pissed. Rightfully so.
The funny thing is, if the players’ main theory is correct and the XP is indeed halved first, doubled later, then they should be thrashing Activision because that’s absolute bollocks. Our version is rather that the XP is not getting doubled at all, which can be attributed to a bug, relieving Activision, and Infinity Ward of at least the moral fault for this mess. That doesn’t make it ok, but can at least be accepted as an “it happens” moment. Problem is, no one on the side of the developers has said a word about the issue, which makes it all the more irritating.
