According to some leaks, Sledgehammer Games are making Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare 2. The original game from 2014 was the first fully futuristic game in the series and the first main title that the studio developed by themselves. Now the game is supposed to come back, with Advanced Warfare 2 allegedly in development. But is this really true?

Advanced Warfare 2 Actually Not In Development

The reveal first came from RalphsValve via whatifgaming, a controversial leaker but one who was right before about Call of Duty. According to them, Advanced Warfare 2 is in development at Sledgehammer Games and slated for a release in 2025. Tom Henderson reported on this via Insider Gaming, emphasizing that he cannot corroborate the report yet, but that Sledgehammer's next game is planned to come in 2025.

However, he now followed up with another article saying:

Sources were unable to give additional details on what Sledgehammer Games is currently developing as the project is in its early stages and subject to change. However, sources did comment that it appears that the Call of Duty franchise is moving towards a release every two years, meaning the game should release in 2026.

So right now everything we know is that Call of Duty is supposed to return to a future setting, but we as well as insiders are unable to verify these claims.

The last Call of Duty game developed by Sledgehammer was 2021's much-maligned Vanguard, which received a fairly negative reception. The future-set games in the series were also always controversial, so it will be interesting to see how the community would receive the comeback of this type of CoD.
