Another exclusive deal for Sony. The Zombie Onslaught co-op mode in Black Ops Cold War will be released only for PlayStation and will stay exclusive to the PS for a full year.
Sony has negotiated an exclusivity deal with Activision yet again. We already saw it previously with Call of Duty: Modern Warfare and the PS-exclusive mode - the co-op Survival mode. It was exclusive for PlayStation until October this year. Now that it's finally available on other platforms we doubt that anyone will be interested in it.
The alpha of the upcoming Black Ops Cold War could be played exclusively on PS4 and the following beta was available for PS4 players one week earlier. It's not really surprising that there will be another exclusive mode for PlayStation, although Xbox and PC gamers aren't very happy about it. Especially when you consider that after one year the next Call of Duty will be just around the corner.
What is Zombie Onslaught?
The Onslaught mode is a simple modification of the normal Zombie mode, which is accessible for all players. Here you can see the trailer:
In this mode, two players are spawned on a multiplayer map where they have to fight off zombies in predefined zones. When they have killed enough, the zone moves on. Depending on how long you last, how many zombies you kill, and how many zones you can complete, your score and rank will increase, with which you will unlock rewards at the end. What these rewards will be is yet to be announced. They'll probably include calling cards, sprays, blueprints, and the like.
As expected, players' reactions to the announcement have not been very positive, as continuous exclusive deals, be it for entire games or individual game content, have been frowned upon lately. Sure, they add further incentive to make your choice in the console wars, but on the other hand, they split the community. We will have to wait and see how much PC and Xbox gamers are disadvantaged by this. The absence of the Survival mode from Modern Warfare, for example, was hardly noticed, since it was only a small part of the Spec Ops mode, which was barely played anyway.
What do you think of the new deal between Sony and Activision? We find it quite problematic when we try to force players onto certain platforms through such deals? Share your thoughts on our Facebook page!
