In our regular setup guides, we try to introduce you to the best setups for each weapon in Black Ops: Cold War. Today, we will take a look at a true Black Ops classic – the AK-74u.

Looking for the best weapons in Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War? You’ve already found a favorite weapon, but you want to know which attachments will help you get the most out of it? Then you’ve come to the right place! But before we get into today’s weapons, don't forget to check out the most played weapons in BOCW:

Why AK-74u?

Today, we’re going to take a look at another submachine gun, the little brother of the AK-47 – the AK-74u. This one should be familiar to every Black Ops aficionado, as it was always a fan-favorite in the earlier games.

It is unlocked in Black Ops Cold War at level 19, and offers a great fire rate and range, with very high damage per bullet. After Treyarch nerfed the MP5, it has become a lot more popular and outperforms it by far, especially in projectile speed.

AK-74u Setup

In order to make our setup accessible to all players regardless of the chosen wildcard, we will again limit ourselves to the most important five attachments for the weapon. Those who use Revolverheld can occupy the remaining three slots according to their personal preference.

Our AK-74u setup is especially interesting as our chosen attachments are available at very low levels and do require unlocking by days of grind:

  • Muzzle: Muzzle brake 5.56
  • Barrel: 9.3” VDV reinforced
  • Underrun: front grip
  • Handle: Tempo-Tape
  • Shank: Tactics shank

The heart of this setup is the 9.3” VDV barrel which increases range by 18% and projectile speed by 80%. The recoil is compensated by the muzzle brake and front grip. Combining those two almost eliminates the vertical and horizontal recoil.

Since the damage and range are already excellent with the AK-74u, we use the remaining two slots to improve movement and speed. The speed tape reduces the time to aim by 10% and the tactics shaft increases the movement speed – both do not bring any disadvantages.

This setup makes the AK-74u a fast MP for close combat, but it shines especially at medium distances thanks to its long range and enormous damage. With this setup, you can also take on an assault rifle.
