Call of Duty 2021, which we thought was called Vanguard, may in fact be named Call of Duty: Slipstream. Information datamined from Activision Blizzard's Battle.net client, and from their store website, suggest that the new name CoD: Slipstream has become either the working, or final title. Details below.
This year's Call of Duty is starting to get a little more traction, after a rocky start and the attention-grabbing success of Battlefield 2042's marketing. And while fans are pessimistic after the poor contribution from Treyarch last year with Black Ops Cold War, the next Call of Duty will give Sledgehammer Games a chance to prove themselves.
There are some solid details on what to expect, and we're certainly more hopeful than we were last year. But this whole time we've been under the assumption that the game was going to be called CoD: Vanguard. After these leaks, though, it seems we might have been wrong.
The Call of Duty: Slipstream Leak
Activision Blizzard's PC client, Battle.net, as well as their store page, displayed a new game a few hours ago called Call of Duty: Slipstream. And unless there's a new Call of Duty releasing this year in addition to Vanguard, which there probably won't be, then this is in fact the new working title of 2021's game. Here's the original leak:

Apart from the name, there's also been an image of this 'Slipstream' title on Battle.net, as another known leaker shared just hours ago:

I know what they mean about it looking very WWII; the white and red stripes on either side of the name are reminiscent of airplane decals.

Why Would Call of Duty 2021 Be Called 'Slipstream'?
Besides the more obvious meaning of slipstream - the area behind a moving object - it can also be used to refer to a specific fictional genre. The slipstream genre is a bizarre blend of historical literary fiction with sci-fi and fantasy. In a WWII Call of Duty context, this would make a lot of sense. It would certainly be reflective of the progressively chaotic Zombies story. And it would allow them to justify why we have all the 21st-century weapons in Warzone.
For now, we can only wait and see, though an official reveal of the game isn't expected until August.
