Recently, Xbox Boss Phil Spencer made a big promise for Call of Duty on PlayStation. Here is everything you need to know!
In a surprising turn of events, Phil Spencer, the CEO of Xbox, recently made a significant announcement during his testimony before the Federal Trade Commission concerning Microsoft's acquisition of Activision Blizzard. The declaration that caught everyone's attention was his promise to keep the immensely popular game franchise, Call of Duty, on PlayStation consoles.
Even though, he made a similar statement almost one year ago, this one is special.
Xbox CEO Makes A Big PlayStation Promise
Spencer's commitment was expressed in resolute terms, with his hand raised and a clear determination in his voice. He stated:
I will do whatever it takes. We have no plan. I'm making a commitment standing here that we will not pull Call of Duty — it is my testimony — from PlayStation. Sony obviously has to allow us to ship the game on their platform. But absent any of that, my commitment is, and my testimony is that we will continue to ship future versions of Call of Duty on Sony’s PlayStation 5.
However, some keen observers have noted a subtle disparity in his statement. Spencer referred to both “PlayStation” and “Sony's PlayStation 5” separately, leading to speculation about his intentions. Was it an unintentional slip of the tongue, or was he subtly hinting that his promise might not extend beyond the current PlayStation hardware?
While the confusion remains, Spencer's affirmation has raised hopes among PlayStation gamers who feared the loss of Call of Duty titles on their preferred platform. Ultimately, the fate of future iterations of Call of Duty on PlayStation will depend on the cooperation and agreement between Xbox and Sony.
