Patch 1.29 reduced the textures of all operators and weapons to free up memory. We'll explain how to reinstall the high-resolution textures on consoles or stream them on the PC.
With the last patch 1.29, Infinity Ward has added another way to save disk space.
Since Modern Warfare and Warzone together are incredibly large and hardly fit on a smaller SSD, and since Black Ops Cold War also needs a lot of memory again, the developers try to give us more options to reduce the size of the game. It has been possible to uninstall single data packs for quite some time. For example, the campaign, multiplayer, special unit mode and survival mode can be installed or uninstalled individually. If you only play multiplayer, you will save a lot of disk space.
Texture Pack and Texture Streaming
With the new patch, Infinity Ward reduced the size of the game even further by reducing all operator and weapon textures. The reason given was that the high-resolution textures require a lot of memory, but in most cases are not used at all.
Is it Still Possible for me to Play with the Best Graphics Though?
Many players will be pleased with the reduced size, but some may wonder how they can now play with the highest settings again. Of course, players don't have to forego the high-resolution textures completely. On both the PS4 and the Xbox it is possible to reinstall the textures in a DLC pack at any time. If you start the game for the first time after the update and have a PS4 Pro or Xbox One X, you will be asked if you want to download the Texture Pack. Even if you don't want to download the texture pack or if you have a normal PS4 or Xbox, you can always install the texture pack via the options. Under "General Options" you will find the tab "Game Installs", which shows you all the data packs that can be installed or uninstalled, just select the appropriate pack and the missing textures will be saved to your hard drive.
If you play on PC texture streaming is offered. If this option is activated, the high-resolution textures are streamed into your cache in the background during the game. In the graphic settings, you can set a daily download limit and the available size of your cache or even disable streaming completely. With Black Ops Cold War on our doorstep, we are of course happy about a little more space on the SSD and the new part of the series will also offer the option to uninstall individual game modes.
