Call of Duty: Vanguard is set to be released in early November this year, but before then, the game will be alpha playtested. And according to a well-known CoD leaker, the Vanguard alpha will be a PlayStation exclusive - to the continuing annoyance of PC and Xbox players.
Emerging from beneath the considerable rubble left by Battlefield 2042's explosive reveal, Call of Duty: Vanguard struggles on, trying to claim what attention it can from the fans. Leakers play a huge role in that, generating interest before official marketing teams can begin. With Call of Duty: Vanguard, those leaks and rumors have all been quite negative, or they were until we began to get a clearer idea of the game. Turns out it won't be as disastrous as people were claiming. And what's more: an alpha playtest will begin soon, though according to one leaker, it's likely to be a PlayStation exclusive.

Call of Duty: Vanguard's Alpha
The fact that there will be an alpha comes as no surprise, this is a practice we've come to expect from Call of Duty. The news was first leaked by dataminer @Helba_The_AI. But what caught our attention was a retweet of that leak by a more famous (and proven to be legitimate) insider who uses the handle @TheGamingRevo3. He commented:
It looks like Call of Duty Vanguard will be getting an Alpha. I'm assuming it'll be Playstation exclusive just like for Black Ops Cold War and Modern Warfare. https://t.co/hfWHHaMtd7

He makes a reasonable point, and it will likely be the case that this first alpha playtest will be a PlayStation exclusive.
July 2 Update
We can now confirm that the alpha is on the Playstation database under the code name 'Slipstream', and that it's about 35GB. An anonymous Twitter account that has access to the Playstation database leaked the news:

When Is CoD: Vanguard's Alpha?
August or early September. We're sorry we can't be more specific right now, but we're confident about the late–summer prediction. As it is most years with Call of Duty; the game will be in late-stage development by then, but it still leaves enough time to make changes here and there before the November release. It actually might make sense for them to begin the alpha playtest after Sony's summer state–of–play event.
