Call of Duty: Vanguard is set to introduce the series-first tactical destruction, as well as a brand-new caliber section in the gunsmith. The two are interlinked, and thus we are here to discuss everything we know about tactical destruction in CoD: Vanguard, as well as Vanguard's new caliber system.
This year's Call of Duty: Vanguard is starting to look a little bit like Rainbow Six: Siege, after we got a more detailed look at the game's new tactical destruction. Your enemy is on the other side of this wall? Well, no problem! Blow up the wall! Sounds cool, right? Well, it gets better because Sledgehammer Games have added a fantastic new caliber system to Call of Duty: Vanguard's gunsmith.
Call of Duty: Vanguard's New Tactical Destruction
Tactical Destruction is a brand-new feature in Call of Duty: Vanguard, allowing you to shoot through walls and destroy elements of the environment in a tactical way. It's a fantastic new addition, creating brand new reactive environments that change as rounds progress. If you check it out in the trailer below, you'll see the difference that it makes. No longer will you shoot at a wall and simply leave small, perfectly circular bullet holes. Instead... the wall will probably be destroyed.
Once you have a weapon, it’s time to tear through the map to defeat your enemies. Tactical destruction was a driving force for Sledgehammer’s innovations to this game’s engine, so expect to blast through specific weak walls, break down doors and windows, or destroy tiles, scenery, structures, and other objects to flush out those pesky campers.
The quote above is taken directly from Activision's official blog post, which detailed everything that was revealed in the Call of Duty: Vanguard multiplayer reveal. You could read it, or alternatively you could just watch the bloody thing. It's only half-an-hour long, and it's right... here:
A new layer of strategy is being added with the new Call of Duty: Vanguard tactical destruction, with players no longer being able to – for example – hide behind objects in the environment. You will need to move quickly, stay on your toes, and utilize the multitude of new perks that are coming in Vanguard, to keep your head above water in this year's Call of Duty.
How Does Call of Duty: Vanguard's Caliber System Work?
A new Caliber System is being added to Call of Duty: Vanguard's Gunsmith, allowing you to equip different types of ammunition, each of which have different properties. The Gunsmith features up to 10 attachment slots, and they can be outfitted with a range of different items. Higher powered ammunition will have increased destructibility in terms of the game's tactical destruction. However, they will assumedly have a number of drawbacks as well. Here is an example from the Call of Duty Blog Post:
Shotguns can now be outfitted with a “Buck Slug,” which is a shell filled with short-range buckshot and a slug round for longer range. This combination is just one way that ammo can change for weaponry — expect other attachments that adjust a weapon’s caliber up or down to affect bullet penetration, fire rate, and more.
The insane amount of customization that is coming with Call of Duty: Vanguard is going to play a huge role in the game's tactical destruction. No longer are gun attachments only important for things like TTK, but they also have an impact on the environment itself, potentially changing and shifting the way we play Call of Duty forever. It's going to be pretty fantastic, if it all works out!
