Are you ready to take the fight to the beaches? Are you ready for Gavutu? Here is our map guide, including a few tips and tricks to get you started...
Gavutu is a medium sized multiplayer map that released with Call of Duty: Vanguard's launch on November 5. It was originally designed for 6v6 matches in standard multiplayer modes, though it is also available at multiple combat pacing's. Gavutu is actually an Island in the Solomon Islands, where a significant amount of fighting took place in WW2's Pacific Conflict. In Call of Duty: Vanguard, Gavutu is supposed to be set at the height of the Pacific Campaign, in August 1942. Here's the map description:
Based on a crucial land battle in the Pacific Theater, this island is used by Eastern Axis forces for ship refueling and a communications base. This large, three-lane-like map was featured in Vanguard Beta.
This particular map takes place in a brutal theater of war. It's a lot of fun, especially in the area made up specifically of shipping tankers and small buildings. The main ship even features a moveable platform with a heavy vehicle stationed on it. There are a few weaknesses here, but for the most part, Gavutu is an excellent addition to the Vanguard experience. Here is our Gavutu Guide!
Vanguard Gavutu Map Guide: The Map
Call of Duty: Vanguard's Gavutu map takes a relatively standard three-lane structure, made up of the eastern Beach, central Jungle, and western Shipyard. We are huge fans of the western-most section of Gavutu in particular, but have a bit of a problem with the eastern Beach, as there is a power position that seriously dominates the beach itself. It's a relatively large map, though, and you can avoid this area pretty easily. Check out the Gavutu minimap:
Vanguard Gavutu Map Guide: Gameplay Overview & Tactics
Gavutu features a uniquely green and jungle-like environment for Call of Duty: Vanguard, and could somewhat suggest at what we should expect in Warzone Caldera. Featuring a beached ship on the coast, we recommend sticking to the nooks and crannies scattered around the more populated western side of the map, and away from the wide open space of the eastern beach area.
The tower that stands erect in the middle of the beach serves as a pretty overused power position in Gavutu, meaning that this whole area is rather rough to play in. When attempting a beach assault, you need to make sure that you have taken out and looked out for any sniper, or indeed, assault-rifle or DMR-wielding players who have taken residence in this tower. Other than focusing on the tower, there's very little enjoyment to be had from the eastern beach, and much more to be had in the western boat-side portion of the map. Don't forget to check out that moving platform in the ship!

We would certainly recommend Gavutu on higher combat pacing settings here, and certainly would recommend that you adopt a bit more of an assault-style classic setup. Opt for a loadout that features an Assault Rifle or a DMR, as well as something with a bit more oomph for the boat areas. You can also try out sniper rifles on Gavutu, especially on that boat areas, but also make sure that you are at least decently equipped for more close-ranged encounters as you may need that from time to time.
