Looking for the SMG that can do it all? The MP-40 is one of the best weapons in Vanguard! Here's the current meta MP-40 loadout with an attachment setup that's perfect for multiplayer and a complete loadout guide.
Of course, you're looking for an MP-40 loadout; this is an amazing SMG that's excellent in all the areas an SMG is usually lacking. And it's strong on pretty much every map and mode in Vanguard. So what's the best attachment setup? And what perks and extras do you need?
Note: This setup guide is for Vanguard's multiplayer, if you're looking for a Warzone build then you want this guide.
The MP-40 Can Do It All
The MP-40 might not be the fastest SMG, and it certainly doesn't have the fastest firing rate, but that's because it's in the sweet spot between AR and SMG. Sort of like the Cooper Carbine, which shot to acclaim when it was released. This means the MP-40 has got real range, and strong accuracy - like an AR, but it also has good handling and mobility - like an SMG. This really is perfect for Call of Duty's standard multiplayer.
The Best MP-40 Attachment Setup
Component | Attachment |
Muzzle | F8 Stabilizer |
Barrel | Krausnick 317MM 04B |
Optic | Slate Reflector |

Underbarrel | M1941 Handstop |
Magazine | 9mm 64 Round Drums |
Ammo Type | Hollow Point |
Rear Grip | Fabric Grip |
Proficiency | Unmarked |
Kit | Fully Loaded |
We've gone for a do-it-all style build, but you might want to make it more of a traditional short-range SMG. If so, then drop the 64 round mags for Gorenko mags and take a different stock. But we can assure you, with the above build, you've got a weapon that works in almost every scenario you'll run into playing Vanguard.
Equipment, Perks & the perfect Secondary Weapon for an MP-40 Loadout
Even though the MP-40 is pretty strong on its own, we still need a well-rounded loadout to really dominate. In the following we introduce you to the best grenades, perks and more for the MP-40.
The Best Secondary Weapon for the MP-40
The MP40 is the best SMG in Vanguard if you want to forego the overkill perk. So we're taking pistols in the secondary slot, and in this case the Top Break (fyi, this build is doing absolute bits in Warzone right now). If you played MW 2019 the Top Break with M15 Shot is basically the .357 with Snakeshot. In other words, a pocket shotgun.
The Best Equipment for the MP-40
Thermite and Flash grenades are the best choices in the MP-40 loadout. With an SMG loadout, you always want to keep moving and get close to your opponents. With Thermite, you've got great area denial and the ability to cause damage over a longer period of time. While the Flash grenades are great for intense CQC. Throw them in a room or around a corner before you venture out of your cover, and you can easily take out the enemies.
The Best Perks for the MP40
When it comes to perks, we advise you to use Ghost, Tracker and Double Time. We don't need ninja because, thanks to the unmarked attachment, our steps are not audible after we've made a kill. Thanks to Ghost, we're not going to be marked on the minimap by spy planes. Which is great for flanking. And Tracker shows us the footprints of nearby enemies, which is also great for this style of gameplay.

The Best Field Upgrade for the MP-40
Short answer: Armor Plates. Armor plates just let us take a few more hits on the torso before we bite the grass. Extremely helpful in our opinion. Just keep in mind that the armor really only applies to the torso, if you take a headshot you'll be done either way.
When is the MP-40 Unlocked?
You only have to reach level 16 in Vanguard to unlock the MP-40. No crazy challenges or endless grind. Just play a little leisurely multiplayer and from level 16 you can grab the best SMG in the game and start unlocking the necessary attachments.
What is the Best Alternative for the MP-40?
The best alternative to the MP-40 is likely to be the Type 100. It's very precise and can be used over slightly longer distances, similar to the MP-40. Most of the other SMGs in Vanguard only work in close combat and are therefore only suitable for run-and-gun action. If you love the MP-40 because it's so versatile, you shouldn't use the M1928 or the Sten, but rather the Type 100. With this setup, the Type 100 is excellent.
That was our best MP-40 loadout in Vanguard. What do you think of this mother? Maybe you want something with a little more range?
