With the launch of the Modern Warfare 2 beta, Call of Duty introduced a new code of conduct and is now taking even stronger action against toxic players. Here is all the info.
Modern Warfare 2 just launched and is already an incredible success. However, since Call of Duty has always been known for its toxic community, Activision wanted to take some precautions and introduced a new code of conduct that every player has to agree to before he starts up Modern Warfare 2 for the first time.
If players break this code of conduct, there are several actions Activision will take against toxic players. These actions can go as far as banning your account completely.
New Code Of Conduct For Modern Warfare 2
With the start of the Modern Warfare 2 beta, all players must agree to the new Code of Conduct and thus also accept that they will be punished or even banned if they violate it. The code consists of three main elements:
Treat everyone with respect | We do not tolerate bullying or harassment, including derogatory comments based on race, gender identity or expression, sexual orientation, age, culture, faith, mental or physical abilities, or country of origin.
Communication with others, whether using text or voice chat, must be free of offensive or harmful language. |
Compete with integrity | Progression is earned through good, clean gameplay. Cheating and griefing or other threats to fair play will not be tolerated.
You are responsible for how your account is used. The use of cheats, including third-party software, is unacceptable. Exploiting bugs or engaging in any activity that grants an unfair advantage is considered cheating. |
Stay vigilant | To promote an enjoyable gameplay experience, utilize in-game tools to report any incidents or inappropriate behaviors you encounter. |
Even though this stuff should be self-evident, they unfortunately aren't for many Call of Duty players, which is why Activision once again points out how they are scrubbing their global player database to remove toxic users.
New Reporting System & Restrictions
To actually enforce the new code of conduct, Activision also relies on players reporting violations via the new reporting system. In the new system, players can choose from several options when reporting a player. These Options include:
- Cheating
- Text Chat - Spam
- Text Chat - Offensive
- Voice Chat - Offensive
- Username - Offensive
- Clan Tag - Offensive
They also can make use of the "More Details"-box to provide more context to their reports.
Additionally, moderators are now able to combat toxicity more effectively. As soon as a report is confirmed by moderators, they can for example mute this player globally from all in-game chat features, going as far as to ban their whole account. This new reporting system will also be implemented in Warzone 2.0.
500.000 Accounts Banned
Activision has so far banned 500,000 accounts and forced 300,000 name changes as part of its crackdown on toxicity in Call of Duty. The new filtering system will detect offensive account and clan names, as well as messages in text chat in 14 languages. In a collaboration between automatic detection systems and human moderators, these accounts are asked to change their names or are banned directly.
According to Activision, they have already made great strides and have seen a 55% decrease in offensive player and clan names in Warzone alone over the past year. However, they will continue to increase their efforts in the future, and in addition to the new code of conduct, they will also expand their technology to better detect and track violations.
What do you think? Are you glad that Activision is cracking down on toxic gamers, or are you one of those CoD kiddies who brag in chat about how many moms you've mated with? If the latter applies to you, you should think about how important CoD is to you, because your account could soon be banned.
