In Modern Warfare 2 PlayStation users will get free bundles, extra custom class slots, free double weapon XP and more. While Xbox users can't even disable crossplay...
As excited as we all were for Modern Warfare 2's launch, Xbox users have just discovered how many exclusive bonuses PlayStation users will enjoy this year, and they're p*ssed. It almost feels like a deliberate act of defiance from Sony, in response to Microsoft's attempted purchase of Activision. But, on the hand, PlayStation users did have to suffer for years of Xbox getting the DLC map packs a month early.
What goes around, comes around? Perhaps, but we've never seen a console get this much exclusive content in a CoD game. And what compounds this whole inequality is that Xbox can't even get basic functions like disabling cross-play.
PlayStation Users Are Getting Tons Of Exclusive Bonuses In MW2
As recently tweeted by Call of Duty themselves, PlayStation users will enjoy heaps of exclusive bonuses in Modern Warfare 2. The bonuses will benefit players for at least the first five seasons of the game (basically the whole of Year 1). Here are the bonuses:
- Battle Pass Bundle Bonus: PlayStation players that purchase a new Battle Pass Bundle will get an additional 5 tier skips. That’s a total of 25 tier skips.
- Double XP Points: PlayStation will get exclusive Monthly Double XP events (24 hr duration).
- Combat Packs: PlayStation players will get a free in-game bundle each Call of Duty: Modern Warfare II season.
- PlayStation Party Bonus: PlayStation players that play together in parties get +25% bonus weapon XP. The bonus still counts when playing with cross-platform teammates.
- Extra Loadouts: PlayStation players get an additional 2 loadout slots, ready for customization.
And let's not forget that PlayStation already got the free bundle for Oni, which includes a great M4 blueprint.
Xbox Can't Even Disable Cross-Play
Xbox does not have the option to disable cross-play in Modern Warfare 2, forcing users to play in PC lobbies. This is obviously more bad news for Xbox players, who have a fraction of the computing power of a high-end PC and need to rely on the dexterity of a single thumb compared to a whole hand. Sadly, this was to be expected. Microsoft have forced Xbox users to play with the PC community since as far back as MW2019.
But whether it was to be expected or not, it hasn't stopped angry customers from complaining:
Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 players on Xbox and PC are discovering they can't disable crossplay through the game's settings. The toggle is there on PlayStation, though full details here: https://t.co/KsHuGsBPTD pic.twitter.com/LXp0NDk5ob

And I can completely understand why they're upset. If I was on Xbox and played Call of Duty as my predominant game, I would consider switching to either PC or PlayStation.
If you're a PlayStation user reading this with glee (and if you were persuaded by our review) then here's a link to buy MW2 .
