Since its first discovery in 2019, slide-canceling has been a mechanic with a lot of potential for discussions. Some like it, others dislike it. Some think CoD would be much worse without it, others think it destroys the core game mechanics. With the upcoming MW3 release, leaks suggest that the slide-cancel might be back.

Slide-Canceling Is Coming To Warzone With MW3 Integration

After being planned to be in MW2 but then being removed before launch, the slide-cancel seems to make its return to CoD and Warzone with the Modern Warfare 3 release. The streamer and leaker Metaphor posted a Tweet containing information on the new map for Warzone and the return of the Slide-Cancel.

A slide-cancel is a momentum-based maneuver. A player starts it by initiating a slide by sprinting and then double crouching. If a player then jumps before the animation starts to slow your momentum, the animation is cancelled and the momentum is maintained. It is used for faster movement around the map and to make yourself harder to hit for your opponent.

Since the Slide-Cancel is hard to perform, the discussion around skill-based movement-actions is back on the menu. This topic can be found in a lot of games throughout the years. Remember the crazy bunny-hops in CS:GO? Or the flip reset in Rocket League? It's the same discussion for the Slide-Cancel.

Skill-based movement-actions lift the ceiling of what "peak" gameplay looks like. It makes the game tougher to master. Elite players have another skill-set in their repertoire to use or anticipate from their opponents. I love seeing the Slide-Cancel back for MW3.
