Call of Duty: Warzone 2 DMZ players may soon lose access to Building 21. As the new DMZ map seems to be hidden behind a potential paywall, it raises questions about whether accessing the map will require purchasing Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 in the future. Despite conflicting answers from official sources, players are left wondering if this move will signal a shift towards monetizing more areas of the free-to-play game.

DMZ Mode: Building 21 Is Not Free-To-Play Anymore

CharlieIntel's official Twitter account teased a new paywall on April 30 that could prevent free-to-play players from accessing a newly added map in DMZ. Several players have reported losing access to Building 21, with one even reaching out to Activision's support team, who confirmed that access to the map will now require players to own Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2.

Despite the game's Trello page listing a bug regarding access to Building 21, Activision's player support has cast doubt on the ability of DMZ players to enjoy the map's experience.

Infinity Ward Confirms DMZ’s Building 21 Bug

Only one day after the rumors about Building 21, on May 1, Infinity Ward confirmed that the issue of DMZ players being unable to access Building 21 is indeed a bug and not a new paywall to make players purchase Modern Warfare 2.

Despite this, the uproar among players was significant enough for Infinity Ward to address it on social media, and Activision confirmed the bug in a statement to Dot Esports.

Furthermore, the second DMZ map, which is only available on weekends, has always been playable for DMZ players, regardless of their ownership of MW2.

I always loved watching Lets Plays on YouTube when I was a kid. My favorite game from back then was definitely Assassin's Creed: Black Flag… but I wasn't allowed to actually play it. SAD!

I also grew up with football...
