CoD Warzone just finished Season 6 of the Modern Warfare era and fans are eagerly awaiting news on Season 1 of Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War. After slightly pushing back the launch, Activision has now announced what's coming in the near future for Warzone!
In a blog entry, Activision has released their new roadmap for Season 1 of Black Ops Cold War and revealed all the info on the integration of BOCW into Warzone. So much in advance: it's quite a lot! We summarize the most interesting information for you here. Let's take a look at what we should expect in the roadmap for Season 1 of Black Ops Cold War.
First of all, all the new content that will be added to Warzone will be free! We've been used to that from Warzone so far, but it's worth pointing that out again and again. Now on to the biggest and coolest new content in CoD Warzone!
Rebirth Island
By far the coolest announcement is that of Rebirth Island, a completely new map in Warzone! The old abandoned Soviet base, Rebirth Island, which is also part of the prison island, will be full of mysterious and cool locations, such as labs, barracks, and a large prison complex.
The developers confirmed that the map will be smaller than Verdansk and, most importantly, will offer exciting opportunities for intense close-quarters combat. The focus is said to be on trios and quads, and the smaller size will also mean that there will be fewer players on Rebirth Island than in Verdansk. The new Warzone experience sounds more intense and we like it!
It all looks extremely cool and after fans have had to play on the same map for a year now, the excitement for the new location is huge.
New Gulags
One of the most interesting and entertaining innovations in the Battle Royale genre was the Gulag, which Warzone introduced. The possibility of including another chance to fight when you die is pretty cool, but after endless Warzone matches, the old familiar Gulag became a bit... well, old. Activision wants to remedy the situation and has announced two new Gulags at once!
Both maps get a new Gulag each: in Verdansk the Gulag becomes an interrogation room modeled after Nuketown. In Rebirth Island, players can bash heads in a secret arena underneath the prison to get back into the Battle Royale action.
The new gulags sound very promising and come at just the right time to replace the somewhat stale Showers.
New Game Mode: Resurgence
Besides the new map Rebirth Island, a new game mode for Warzone has been announced: Resurgence! This mode sounds... interesting. It is meant for groups and lets you respawn after dying! The gulag is turned off. Instead, a countdown starts after your death. Your teammates have to survive until the countdown expires, then you come back! If they don't make it, your team is out and the last surviving team wins.
That sounds like it's going to take some getting used to but it's quite straightforward. However, we're happy to see any innovation to the classic Battle Royale formula. Resurgence could make for interesting dynamics and exciting moments, bringing some variety to everyday BR!
Besides these big new announcements, there will also be general innovations that were already known. A new helicopter and both new weapons and operators from Black Ops Cold War. You can read the whole blog entry, but be warned: it's very long! That's why we've summarized the most important information for you.
