Fortnite and Warzone are bitter rivals, constantly fighting it out for the position of best Battle Royale. Let's be real: neither of them are the best. There are plenty of Battle Royale's out there that are far superior to both of these juggernauts. That's just the thing, though: they're juggernauts, so even if they don't necessarily always deliver on quality, they do always deliver on financial success.
Warzone is the home of the "bro". For those of you who don't know what I'm talking about, you will understand with the following statement: the only people more annoying than CoD die-hards are FIFA die-hards. If Barney from How I Met Your Mother was a modern man, he'd play Warzone. On the flip side you have Fortnite, the home of the "twelvie". If you don't know what a "twelvie" is, then you should probably crawl out from under that rock.
Now, this is where our question comes into play: Call of Duty: Warzone or Fortnite - which one's better? Which game is the better Battle Royale?
Warzone vs Fortnite: The Case for Warzone
Warzone is a grittier take on the Battle Royale, featuring Call of Duty's tight gunplay, and the interesting Gulag System. Let's be real, though, there's not really much else to talk about. People love Warzone, and it's understandable. The game is tight, it's expertly designed, and each smaller area within its vast map is just as carefully curated as any CoD multiplayer map.
The thing is, though, Warzone does excel somewhat when it comes to storytelling. It serves as almost a mirror for the latest Call of Duty game, with the setting shifting and evolving over time. The problem with this model, though, is that the game has a serious balance problem. Featuring weapons from multiple eras - and soon to feature weapons from WW2 - Warzone is a bit of a mess, with a meta that may continue to shift, but will always feature an OP and unbalanced weapon.
Then, there are the cosmetics. Guys, it's a first person game. Don't talk to me about operator skins: who gives a flying fork? Weapon skins, cool. Charms, blah, blah, blah, there's plenty to check out and plenty of insanely overpriced bundles to purchase with your hard-earned money. The thing is, though, some of it is cool, but all of it is overpriced. Warzone clearly loses in this regard.
Warzone vs Fortnite: The Case for Fortnite
Fortnite might not feature the tight gunplay or the grittiness of Warzone, but to be honest, that's to its benefit in many ways. There is not as much of a "bro" community, resulting in significantly less tediousness... well, at least in that it's not so "manly". On the other hand, it's swarming with young'uns who love nothing more than to troll people into an early grave. In the case of community, to be honest, it's a matter of choosing which poison you wish to take.
Storytelling is a bit more variable here. There's no ominous (and subtly racist) threat from some gritty higher power in Fortnite. Instead, the game opts for a more whimsical approach to storytelling. There are some pretty amazing events in Fortnite: events which completely put Warzone to shame. A pre-recorded Nuke cutscene? Cool story, bro, Fortnite's map gets changed season-in and season-out, and often involves a far more impressive event than Raven Software have ever achieved with Warzone (seriously, shooting an inanimate object is your idea of a quality game reveal? Fork off, Raven!).
Then there are the cosmetics. Love it or hate it, Fortnite features a huge plethora of incredible cosmetic items to don your character with. No matter whether you want to be a cool-as* action hero, Iron Man, or a pop star, you can express yourself in pretty much any way in Fortnite. Oh, and the game is in third-person, so you can actually SEE your cosmetics (mind blown)! It's not really my thing, but you have to give it to them, what Epic Games have done with Fortnite's cosmetics is completely genius.
Oh, one more thing, Fortnite has building mechanics. Warzone doesn't. Do I need to say more?
Call of Duty: Warzone or Fortnite: Which One is Better?
Fortnite clearly takes the ticket over Warzone, but there is a caveat. Both of these games are clearly designed for different audiences. Fortnite is designed for players who want a casual and fun experience. It features some super cool building mechanics, remarkable world events, and cosmetics that are not to be sniffed at. On the flip side, Warzone is there for the hardcore gamers. It requires a lot more shooting skill, and in a lot of ways, more tactical skill. Verdansk is pretty cool, too, and the new Pacific Map could absolutely skyrocket it into the lead. But, for now... Warzone vs Fortnite? Which one's better? Fortnite. Fortnite's better.
Oh, also, this is my personal opinion. Lob as much abuse at me for it as you want, but keep reading EarlyGame. They're a good bunch of blokes.
