Black Ops Cold War is introducing its new Double Agent mode in Season 5, and it's looking pretty great. BOCW Double Agent is set to be a great inclusion in Season 5, and we're here to break it down for you. What is the new Double Agent Mode in BOCW Season 5? How does Double Agent work, and what can we expect from it? Let's dive in.

The new Double Agent mode is introducing an investigative experience to BOCW's multiplayer in Season 5. We're going full Bond-esque, with a mode that assigns players as double agents whose job it is to sabotage the mission. To be honest, especially for a game like BOCW – which is set (as the name suggests) during the Cold War – this seems like the absolute perfect new mode! Seriously – who could not be excited for this? Let's break down exactly what is the Double Agent Mode in BOCW Season 5, and how it works...

Are you hyped for BOCW Season 5? Are you going to be playing the heck out of Double Agent in BOCW Season 5 Multiplayer? What else is coming? Well, let's get you up-to-date on everything Season 5!

What is Double Agent in BOCW Season 5?

Double Agent is a new multiplayer mode in Black Ops Cold War Season 5 that assigns players as "double agents" who must sabotage the mission. These players must either eliminate everyone else, or set off explosive charges around the map. They mustn't be caught, or they will lose the game. There are three different player types: Double Agents, the Investigator, and Operatives, but we will get to them later.

BOCW's new Double Agent Multiplayer Mode is a pretty impressive affair, with a pretty fantastic trailer. To be honest, this is the kind of mode we have been waiting for in Black Ops Cold War, bringing that Cold War mystery and intrigue to the multiplayer experience, and certainly elevating the game's multiplayer above its typical run-and-gun gameplay. Let's all be real: until this point, there was very little reason to play BOCW Multiplayer!

How Does Double Agent Work in BOCW Season 5?

In BOCW Season 5's new Double Agent Multiplayer Mode, players are either Double Agents, Investigators, or Operatives, and the goal is to expose the traitors. Each different player types have particular tasks, and the mode has a pretty complicated set of rules. It's freaking fantastic, though, so we're here to break it all down for you. Let's start with the Agents themselves...

What Are the Player Types in BOCW Double Agent?

  • Double Agents: Eliminate all other players, or successfully set off explosive charges around the map. Double Agents have access to:
    • Gas mines
    • Counter-Spy Planes
    • Combat Bows
    • Attack Helicopters
    • Radiation Protection.
  • The Investigator: Analyze clues and target the suspected Double Agents as "Wanted Criminals". Investigators have access to:
    • Trophy Systems
    • Stimshots
    • Hand Cannons
    • Can see Double Agent's Footprints near other player's death locations
    • Investigators can issue a Wanted Order on a suspicious player
  • Operatives: Work together to identify and eliminate the Double Agents before they achieve their goal.

What Are the Double Agent Rules in BOCW Season 5?

  • Each player is either a double agent, investigator, or an operative (see above roles).
  • Each player starts with a pistol, with weapons and equipment being introduced in the preparing stage.
  • Each role has a specific set of abilities (see above roles).
  • Investigators can issue Wanted Orders on suspicious players, viewable by the Operatives who must hunt down and eliminate them.
  • Treyarch strongly suggests that players should use voice chat for the optimal BOCW Double Agent experience.
  • The game mode is played with up-to nine other players (total maximum players is ten).

Jeez-magee, this game mode certainly looks like a bloody-fun time (pun intended!). Seriously. We have probably ranted a bit too much here, but we can't wait to jump in when the new Season drops on August 12.
