The 2020 CoD League playoffs results are in and fans and pro players are pissed off as some teams were robbed of their grand finals dreams by unstable servers causing straight up lobby disconnects mid-match.
The NA, EU and APAC regions are competing for a $4.6 million prize pool with the finals coming next weekend August 29-30. Regardless of the lobby disconnects, we have the stage set for the CDL Grand finals. Let's hope that Actionvison gets their servers actually stable for the finals.
Despite the drama and upsets caused by disconnects we have next weekend's grand finals showdown. These Four Teams advance to the finals:
- ATL FaZe and DAL Empire (Winner's Bracket finalist
- LDN Royal Ravens and CHI Huntsmen (Loser's Bracket finalist)
Here is how the elimination bracket played out:
Day 1 and Day 2 The Unfair Disconnects
Several players across different teams disconnected mid-match allowing other teams to have a clear edge. The most impactful disconnect was in the London Royal Ravens and Toronto Ultra upper bracket match where Raven player Trei "Zero" Morris suffered a D/C allowing for a 4v5 and lead to Ultra easily securing game 4. Different CoD pros teams expressed their frustration over Twitter:
The scuf play of the match showed Zer0 lagging out in the corner

What can I say ? We take the lead and hold a full 60 4v5. Trei lags out we have to play 4v5 and don't get a replay of course. GGs Toronto, this is nothing new to me. I'm used to being robbed

Surely this gets delayed or something happens/changes ? 3 series have been played and we've seen someone lag out 3 times already. $4.6 million on the line. Talking house money, life changing

People were already adding an asterisk to this event. Imagine now. But hey that $$$$$ still hitting that bank account and it's as real as can be.

Anything can Happen in CoD - But Not Like This!
On Wednesday, OpTic Gaming Kenny "Kuavo" Williams got kicked from the game and this led to a map loss for OpTic. "Dashy" quickly replaced OpTic in the next map and the team was still able to rally and win the series.
The obvious has to be said, CoD is a blisteringly fast game, dynasties are formed in split-second plays. Matches come down to literal seconds and imagine getting disconnected and losing your chance at a multi-million dollar finals because of scuffed servers. It should be noted that CoD has no online pause button - and the CDL only restarts a map if it happens at the beginning of a map.
Disconnects Lead to Stream Delay
After the firestorm on Twitter - the CDL implemented a Stream Delay in day 3 of competitionleaving many asking why it wasn't done sooner - the remaining days of playoff matches seemed to be unaffected with only minor lag complaints heard over in-game player coms.

The Grand final is a grueling best of 9! And hopefully disconnects notwithstanding, it is going to be a battle of the CoD gods and only one team will have the skill and will power to this steal this series.
