Confirmed: Amonkhet Is Coming Back!

Confirmed Amonkhet Is Coming Back
Hello, Hazoret. Long time no see. (Image credit: Wizards of the Coast)

August 13 marks the release of Amonkhet and Hour of Devastation Remastered, MTGA’s first comeback sets post-Standard rotation.

Players want to play with their older cards and it looks like this time Wizards are happy to oblige. It’s officially confirmed that Amonkeht Remastered is in the works and set for release in roughly 3 weeks.

The new patch form MTG Arena will bring all 340-ish cards from fan-favorite sets Amonkhet and Hour of Devastation with the same mechanics and interactions, but improved gameplay.

More experienced planeswalkers might remember that those two expansions were once live inside MTGA when the game was still in Beta. That means that Wizards have the cards programmed and running, but an improvement and integration with all of the game’s latest features, as well as support for formats such as Pioneer and Historic, is a very nice inclusion.

We were also told that while August 13 is the planned release date for Nicol Bolas’ Egypt-inspired plane, there will be a big announcement coming on August 6 that will shed more light on the remaster.

It’s made clear that Wizards wants to support Pioneer inside MTGA and will do so by mastering and remastering sets no longer in Standard - Amonkhet, Hour of Devastation, Ixalan, and Rivals of Ixalan come to mind, as well as many sets that have never been playable inside MTGA.

We want to know more about this new Remastered program, any specific events supporting older sets, and the future of Amonkhet. Hopefully, the info on August 6 will give us all that info.
