We hate to say “we told you so”, but we totally did. The Banned and Restricted list is updated and some of your favorite pieces won’t be making it back to Standard and Heroic.

You might remember our article from a few days back when we told you to get your games with Nexus of Fate while you can. Well, we hope you did, because this card is super out of Heroic now. The same goes for a few other pieces that recently got suspended.

Just Tell Me Who Got Banned

Alright. The list goes as follows:

Historic

  • Agent of Treachery is banned (from suspended)
  • Winota, Joiner of Forces is banned (from suspended)
  • Fires of Invention is banned (from suspended)
  • Nexus of Fate is banned
  • Burning-Tree Emissary is suspended

Pioneer

  • Oath of Nissa is unbanned

Modern

  • Arcum's Astrolabe is banned

Pauper

  • Expedition Map is banned
  • Mystic Sanctuary is banned

Wizards gave a justification that basically boils down to these cards being dangerous in Historic and the unpleasant possibility of only getting better with time, so to the great sadness of us Dimir players, we won’t be stealing lands or taking extra turns like we used to.

Do People Care?

Of course, they do! This is Magic! Every time a card gets banned or unbanned, there is an onslaught of complaints coming from both ends. However, popular YouTuber Tolarian Community College used the recent banning to touch on an interesting subject.

Well, he’s right. We can kind of get Wizards’ philosophy of banning and restricting left and right in MTGA, but people play eternal formats so their decks don’t get changed every month. Oh well, it is what it is.
