The highly anticipated Overwatch sequel doesn’t have a release date yet, but artists at Blizzard Entertainment are giving us a taste of all the cool things that will come with the new game.
Overwatch is a game all about heroes and their noble deeds in a not-so-distant future in which evil robots called Omnics constantly attack innocent civilians and heroes from around the globe band together to fight the Omnics… while looking as cool as physically possible.
Overwatch 2 is still on the horizon without a publicly announced release date and details of the game are kept secret. However, that didn’t stop us from scouring the internet for artwork and we found some pretty cool things. This is what the extremely talented artists over at Blizzard have revealed so far.
Familiar faces
Browsing through the page of Blizzard Lead Character Artist Renaud Galand showed us some really interesting images from the upcoming Overwatch 2. We see the old gang, sporting their trademark suits and battle gear, but all of them are slightly changed. The most striking example would be Tracer, the British agent known for her bubbling personality and girly giggle. She now looks more determined and serious, a wisened veteran of many battles against the Omnics.
Overwatch Senior Character Artist Hong Chan Lim has been showing off Lúcio sporting new dredlocks in a bright and venomous green color perfectly matching his personality and DJ on-stage presence. While unmistakably keeping his original style, this new version of Lúcio looks fresh and playful, much like how it feels to play as him.
Another surprise by the talented artist is a rather menacing-looking evil robot design in aggressive white and black sporting a huge facial horn reminiscent of the classic Japanese Gundam mechs.
Another talented artist, in-Game Cinematics Technical Artist Sebastian D Rivas has been showing us the famous Tank-Support duo, Reinhardt and Brigitte.
Reinhardt has lost his helmet, displaying a magnificent snow-white beard and a nasty scar on his left eye. This makes us wonder, where is his helmet? Must be in the hands of San Francisco Shock!
The new heroes
We also got a glimpse of upcoming heroes in the Overwatch roster. Namely, these are the mysterious Sojourn who’ve we only seen teased, and the elegant robot Echo, who has some deep, if yet unexplored, emotional connection to McCree.
We can’t wait to learn more about this badass white-haired warrior.
New Places
Lastly, heroes are not the only things that are getting cool designs. The entire world is expanding within Overwatch 2. Talent such as Senior Character Artist Helder Pinto are displaying their work on exciting places such as Toronto, Rio de Janeiro, and Monte Carlo.
We also got this amazing vista from a futuristic version of Monte Carlo.
Judging by these stills, the new Overwatch 2 world will be absolutely gorgeous. We can’t wait to see more of it… oh, and that release date would be appreciated. Thanks.
