A lot of you have probably spent hundreds, if not thousands of hours playing and watching CS:GO. You gained knowledge along the way and learned many things about this game (and along with it, some bad words in Russian). However, there are some things about CS:GO that a lot of people might not know. Stay tuned to find out what they are!
First Counter-Strike Game to Include Competitive Mode
Counter-Strike is actually a series of multiplayer first-person shooter video games. The first release of the game was on November 9, 2000. Back in the days, there wasn’t a built-in competitive mode. Players had to use special servers with custom competitive modes. It wasn’t just click-and-play either, you had to find 10 players, an empty server, and an admin to start the match.
The first version of CS:GO was released on August 21, 2012, and it also didn’t have built-in competitive mode and ranks. However, as the game gained popularity, many new features were added, including competitive matchmaking.
Rematch Option and Ranking System
Before one major update in November 2014, players were actually able to play a rematch with the current teams on the same map. All 10 players had to vote and the vote had to be unanimous. This feature is actually useful and we would love to see it back in CS:GO in some future update.
That major update also brought the CS:GO ranking system. Competitive matchmaking received new restrictions to make games more competitive and intense.
Introduction of Skins
Everyone is crazy about skins and you often see players spend great amounts of money just to buy virtual shiny weapons. What if I told you that in the early beginnings of CS:GO, this wasn’t the case?
Skins weren’t a part of the game until late 2013. They were added in “The Arms Deal” update, one of the best updates this game ever received. Today, players are willing to pay thousands of dollars for those virtual shiny weapons.
The Most Expensive CS:GO Skin Ever Sold

Believe it or not, the most expensive skin ever sold went for a whopping $61,052. The rarest AWP skin in the game is called Dragon Lore from the Cobblestone collection and its price can range depending on the stickers. This Dragon Lore had Tyler “Skadoodle” Latham stickers from Boston Major 2018.
Cloud9 won that tournament and became the first American team to ever win a Major. That added even more value to the skin and it is the sole reason for its price. Of course, it wasn’t sold on the Steam Market – the transaction took place on a third-party website called OPSkins.

Graffiti on Maps
Graffiti on the walls of most popular maps (Dust 2, Inferno, Mirage, Overpass, Cache) aren’t just random art. They have been subsequently added to the game to commemorate some iconic competitive moments from Major tournaments.
So far, only 5 players have made such an iconic play to earn permanent graffiti on the map. The first one to do so was Olof "olofmeister" Kajbjer on ESL One Cologne: 2014. He is also the only player that has not one, but two permanent graffiti on a single map. Other players that got their graffiti are: Marcelo "coldzera" David, Oleksandr "s1mple" Kostyliev, Adam "friberg" Friberg, and Mikhail "Dosia" Stolyarov.
Find C4 in Smoke
Trying to find C4 in smoke can be frustrating and it takes away precious seconds that can cost you a round. One of the easiest ways to find C4 in smoke is by using the tutorial.
Just don’t disable tutorial in the options and you should be able to always see where the bomb is planted. This will surely help you to win some rounds, thank me later... until Valve remembers this and patches it up or something. But how often does that happen?
Other Interesting CS:GO Facts
- You can’t see your own shadow
Despite the fact that you can see everyone’s shadow, you can’t see your own. The first person POV cameras do not have shadow render so you can’t see it.
- Pull out money from ATM
It is possible to pull out money from the ATM on Overpass. If you are playing in a Deathmatch mode, just go close to the ATM and press the “E” button to use it and cash out money from the bank.
- Radio on Train
The radio stationed in the lobby on the Train is playing the Team Fortress 2 theme song. It is kind of strange, but it is what it is.
- Chickens can follow you
Did you know that you can order chickens to follow you? Just aim at the chicken and press “E” to do so.
- Jumping through Molotov won’t reduce damage
Yes, even though a lot of professional players are trying to avoid damage by jumping through the Molotov, it does not work. The best way to go through a Molotov is running straight with only a knife in your hands.
