Despite the coronavirus pandemic, Dota 2 hasn’t been lacking events in the past six months. August will give us some high-quality tournaments so get ready.
During normal circumstances there’ll be one event everyone will be talking about in August and that’s The International. We’re in a unusual situation due to the global pandemic and the fate of the biggest Dota 2 event is still unclear. Valve haven’t announced anything else besides that it’ll be delayed and according to some not so recent leaks The International 10 will take place in 2021. Thankfully, there are plenty of high-quality Dota 2 tournaments to fill the competitive void left by TI 10.
The OMEGA League
Organized by WePlay!, Epic Esports Events and some of the most famous Dota 2 teams, the OMEGA League sure looks promising. It’ll feature the best teams from China, SEA, Europe, the CIS and the Americas. Each region will play separately with the exception of Europe and the CIS. With a total prize pool of over $550,000 it’s an event not worth missing out on.
Streams will be available on multiple languages, but the English one can be found on WePlay!’s official Twitch. The Asia division has already kicked off on August 1, but fear not as it’ll continue up until August 22. The rest are scheduled as follows:
- OMEGA League: Europe Divine Division – August 10 – September 5
- OMEGA League: Europe Immortal Division – August 14 – September 6
- OMEGA League: Americas Ancient Division – August 17 – September 3
- OMEGA League: Americas Divine Division – August 17 – September 5
ESL One Thailand
After the popularity of ESL One Los Angeles Online and ESL One Birmingham Online, it was to be expected that ESL will follow up with yet another event. The next one in line is ESL One Thailand. Unlike the OMEGA League, ESL One Thailand will only feature two regions (or four depending on how you look at it) and those are Americas (NA and SA) and Asia (China and SEA). The main events are set to kick off on the following dates:
- ESL One Thailand 2020: Americas – August 8 – August 30
- ESL One Thailand 2020: Asia – August 20 – September 6
In between those you’ll find plenty of qualifiers for China and SEA, but beware the dates of ESL One Thailand and the OMEGA League overlap, so there’s a slight chance you won’t be able to watch both at the same time. You can find an official stream in English on ESL’s Twitch.
The Great American Rivalry Division 2 Season 1
In the mood for some Tier 2/3 Dota? Then look no further than The Great American Rivalry. The tier one division of the event may have come to an end with Quincy Crew taking the champion’s title but it’s not all over yet. Division 2 of the tournament is still underway and will continue up until August 16. The only bad thing about it is the lack of an official stream in English. Maybe it’s time to freshen up your Spanish at the Peruvian stream.
Oceanic Esports League - Season 2
If the lack of an English stream is a no-go for The Great American Rivalry then here’s an alternative. The Oceanic Esports League Season 2 started yesterday and will last up until October 24. There’s an official stream and it’s worth taking a look even if it’s just to check some of the participants. After all, there are team names like Cuteanimegirls and Power of Friendship.
