Valve’s plans to delay The International 11 to 2022 are now clear after a company email got leaked by one of the cities that wanted to host the event.
While we’re all sitting here and wondering about The International 10 and when it’s going to be, Valve are way ahead. Due to the coronavirus pandemic, the threat to public health, and the numerous travel restrictions the majority of esports events were canceled or delayed. The same rule applied for the biggest Dota 2 event of the year – The International.
Valve announced that the grand event will be delayed but it wasn’t certain whether it’ll come later this year or in 2021. Now, thanks to a leaked email which discussed the next edition of the event, it’s rather clear. Here’s the leaked email:
According to it, Valve are planning to schedule The International 11 for 2022. This is hardly shocking, but what’s even better is it indirectly gives us an update on The International 10.
Many of us hoped the 10th anniversary of the event will happen this year, but by the looks of it, we might have to wait until 2021. It only makes sense that the two events will be at least a year apart and if TI11 is planned for 2022 this more or less means that this year’s TI will be happening next year. The last update Valve gave us was back on May 1.

Many other games have switched events to an online format and the Dota 2 pro scene is also no stranger. In terms of The International though, Valve want to keep the epic feel of the event as the biggest LAN tournament of the year. The last International gathered $34,330,068 in prize money and it looks like the 10th edition will beat that. The pool for The International 10 is currently sitting at almost $29 million and there are still two months remaining before the Battle Pass ends on September 19.
Despite that, there are still two unreleased treasures, an arcana, and a persona, so sales will probably go through the roof before this Battle Pass is over.
