Recent bugs in Dota 2's MMR system

In the last two days, there have been some weird situations when it came to Dota 2's MMR system. Let's have a look.

Massive gain/loss of MMR

So what is this bug exactly? After one of the small updates, every win or loss results in a huge rating change after restarting the game. This appears to affect only some players and not everyone, but it's still not clear whether it's the majority of the player base. Players have already reported some astonishing numbers and a screenshot to support it.

The loss here is massive and could easily make players jump from one medal to another. Reportedly the numbers keep moving the more times you restart the game or at least that's what people claim so far. If you think 600 is a lot, then you wouldn't believe these next numbers.

It's not certain what exactly caused this MMR bug, but it's certainly coming from Valve's end and one of their recent Dota 2 updates. Thankfully there's Tug of War: Mad Moon to distract a good portion of the players, while Valve resolve the issue. In any case, it's expected that all of the changes caused by the bug will be reverted back to normal.

But that's not all

In addition to the massive gains/losses of MMR, there's also a noticeable increase in queue times when in a party. Where you'd usually find a game in less than ten minutes will now maybe take more than half an hour. What's really interesting about this is the fact that solo queue waiting times don't appear to be affected at all. So in case you're planning to play with some friends, you might have to arm yourself with patience before finding a match.

To brighten things up, we leave you with a Twitch clip of Ivan "MinD_ContRoL" Ivanov drawing a penis with Batrider's Firefly during the decider match of Tug of War: Mad Moon.
