The Dota 2 OMEGA League is a multi-region tournament gathering some of the best teams from around the world. Europe and the Americas started recently, while Asia is already into the playoffs.

OMEGA League is the big Dota 2 event of August. It is organized by Epic Esports events (the company behind EPICENTER) and WePlay! in collaboration with some of the most famous Dota 2 teams. Due to the coronavirus pandemic, online events in Dota 2 have grown into mostly regional ones and OMEGA League is no exception. Players from Asia, Europe and the Americas will clash to prove who’s the best. The total prize pool for the tournament across all three regions is over $600, 000 making it one of the biggest online events of the year.

OMEGA League: Asia Divine Division

Asia started out early, back on August 1 and the region is set to wrap it all up by Saturday, August 22. Here’s the full list of 12 teams that made it to the official event:

  • LING ER
  • Blaze
  • EHOME.Immortal
  • Aster.Aries
  • Neon Esports
  • Reality Rift
  • Adroit Esports
  • Cignal Ultra
  • For The Dream
  • DeMonster
  • Execration
  • 496 Gaming

The 12 teams were split into two groups of six. Aster.Aries and 496 Gaming were the leaders of their respective groups, as both teams remained undefeated by the end of the stage. The tournament is currently into playoffs with 496 Gaming and Neon Esports about to fight it out in the Upper Bracket Final on August 20. In the meantime, there are still four teams left in the Lower Bracket – Aster.Aries, Execration, For The Dream and EHOME Immortal. Aries were knocked down by Neon Esports and it came as quite the surprise as many of us thought Aster would waltz through the playoffs. Things are not so certain now. Here are the next two series you can watch:

  • Aster.Aries vs Execration - August 19, 7:00 AM CET
  • For The Dream vs. EHOME Immortal - August 19, 10:00 AM CET

Overall, we see mainly tier 2 teams but that doesn’t make the main event any less entertaining. It’s unclear who’ll take the champions title, but 496 Gaming might be our best bet.

OMEGA League: Americas Divine Division

The Americas Divine Division started on August 17 and will conclude on September 5, so there’s plenty of competitive action on the way. Here’s the full list of participants:

  • Quincy Crew
  • 4 Zoomers
  • business associates
  • beastcoast
  • Thunder Predator
  • Infamous
  • Boonz + Goonz
  • Pace
  • Omega Gaming
  • Team Brasil

Out of the ten teams, there’s one clear favorite and that’s Quincy Crew. The NA team has claimed titles in the last five events they attended so you could say they’re on a winning streak. So far only two series were played out. Quincy Crew defeated B+G with a 2:0 and Thunder Predator dominated Omega Gaming with a 2:0. There are two more series coming up later today.

  • 4 Zoomers vs. Pace – August 19, 11:00 PM CET/ August 19, 2:00 PM PT
  • beastcoast vs. Team Brasil – August 20, 2:00 AM CET/ August 19, 5:00 PM PT

You can watch the matches on the official We Play Twitch stream.

OMEGA League: Europe Immortal Division

The action in Europe started on August 14 and will continue up until September 6. Here we can see some world-class:

  • OG
  • Team Secret
  • Team Liquid
  • Virtus.pro
  • Natus Vincere
  • Evil Geniuses
  • FlyToMoon
  • Alliance
  • Team Nigma
  • Ninjas in Pyjamas
  • 5men
  • Vikin.gg

The ten teams are split into two groups of 5. Group A seems to be the easy one with EG, Nigma, Alliance, 5men, VP and Na’Vi. Here EG and Nigma are still undefeated. Na’Vi have already lost twice, once to 5men and once to Virtus.pro.

In group B it’s the battle of the titans. OG seems to be back on track as they’re on top of the group with a 2-0 score. They’ve claimed victory over Vikin.gg and NiP, but will they manage to prevail versus Secret or Liquid? FlyToMoon is the only team that hasn’t played a game yet, despite the fact that the event kicked off days ago. The next series we’ll see will be on August 20.

  • FlyToMoon vs. Vikin.gg – August 20, 2:00 PM CET
  • Team Secret vs. NiP – August 20, 5:00 PM CET
  • Team Nigma vs. Evil Geniuses – August 20, 8:00 PM CET

You can catch all the games with live commentary on the We Play! Twitch channel.

In Europe it’s even harder to tell who’ll make it to the end. Top contenders for the title of champions are Team Secret. Clement “Puppey” Ivanov and his squad won the last six events they attended. The only team that was remotely able to stop them was Team Nigma. Whether they’ll find success in OMEGA League remains to be seen.
