The Chinese superstar team of Elephant.4AM has been a hot topic for the last month. Yesterday they had their first series against RNGU, and it wasn’t what fans expected.

The rumors of a Chinese superstar Dota 2 team turned into reality as Four Angry Men (4AM) announced their entry into the competitive scene. The team actually came to be known as Elephant.4AM due to a sponsorship with another organization. In the roster of 4AM we find some of the best players from the Chinese region:

  • Zhang "Eurus" Chengjun
  • Lu "Somnus丶M" Yao
  • Zhou "Yang" Haiyang
  • Xu "fy" Linsen
  • Ru “RedPanda" Zhihao

The team’s first tournament started yesterday with the CDA-FDC DOTA2 Professional Championship where 4AM also had their first series against RNGU. The latter is definitely a good team but considering most of 4AM’s squad came from Vici Gaming and PSG.LGD fans expected the new team to simply mow down Royal Never Give Up. That certainly wasn’t the case.

Game one was contested early on but everything changed as the game went on. RNG had Phoenix, Puck, Doom, and a Rubick which meant they dominated almost every team fight. 4AM’s draft wasn’t cutting it and by the 30-minute mark it was obvious RNG are taking this one. The final score at the end of game one was 34 to 17 in favor of Royal Never Give Up.

We hoped that game two would be different and we’ll see a good show from 4AM. To some extent we were right, the game was different indeed, as it was a total stomp for RNG. Elephant.4AM had a much better draft this time around with some nice team fight spells but unfortunately, they lost all possible lanes. This skyrocketed RNG and they started taking objectives and kills. The same couldn’t be said about the superstar team as 4AM only had 3 kills at the end of the match.

4AM had a rough start and they have a lot to improve in terms of drafting. The team’s next two series are coming on Sunday when they’ll face EHOME and Team Magma. Considering EHOME defeated RNG it won’t be any easier for the superstar squad. If the team fails to perform it won’t be too big of a stretch to see some roster changes though we highly doubt it’ll happen that early.
