We continue with our Dota 2 Item Guide series and today’s topic will be all about Eul’s Scepter of Divinity. Find out everything about the popular item!
Getting the right items in Dota 2 can make all the difference. We've already covered Blade Mail and now we're onto Eul's Scepter of Divinity. What does it do and when to get it?
Eul’s Scepter of Divinity
Let’s start with a short overview of the item:
- Patch: At some point in DotA (before patch 5.31)
- Total cost: 2725 gold
- Grants: +10 intelligence, +20 movements speed, +5 mana regeneration
- Active: Sweeps a target unit up into a cyclone, making them invulnerable for 2.5 seconds. Cyclone can only be cast on enemy units or yourself. (cooldown 23 seconds)
At first glance, Eul’s Scepter doesn’t look that impressive as the stats are quite average. In reality, the possibilities are quite a lot thanks to its activate or on-use ability. The latter applies a basic dispel if the target is an enemy. Less known facts about Eul’s Scepter:
- You can use it while’s you’re affected by Black King Bar
- It ignores status resistance (meaning the duration is always 2.5 seconds)
- It deals 50 damage to enemies when they drop
The item has been in DotA for as long as we can remember and can be utilized both offensively and defensively. The mana regen provided guarantees that you won’t have any mana issues with most heroes. Getting the item is fairly easy as the components are quite cheap.
When to buy it?
Some heroes need Eul’s in almost every game due to the nature of their kit as it makes it much easier to set up a combo alone:
- Lina
- Jakiro
- Mirana
- Void Spirit
- Ancient Apparition
- Shadow Fiend
- Bloodseeker
Lina, Void Spirit, Jakir, Mirana, and AA can guarantee a stun with it, while Shadow Fiend can time it perfectly for a Requiem of Souls. Bloodseeker can use it to stop enemies trying to teleport out of a Rupture.
Another good reason to get the item is the dispel component that’s built into the active ability. If you’re a hero with high mobility like Queen of Pain, getting silenced often means certain death. With Eul’s you can avoid that and you can even dodge projectiles coming at you (unless it’s Sven’s Storm Hammer with the level 15 talent). You can also use the dispel offensively to dispel enemy buffs like Windranger’s Windrun and many others that don’t require a hard dispel. Additionally, enemies that have purchased a Blink Dagger won’t be able to blink right after dropping down because of the 50 damage.
Eul’s Scepter of Divinity is a cheap way to deal with heroes that can get in and crowd control your team – Axe, Earthshaker, Legion Commander etc. Just make sure you’re keeping your distance so you can save your teammates. Other heroes like Trall Warlord or Abaddon will rely on a period of invulnerability which you can shorten by half with Eul’s. There's also the possibility of catching a pesky Kunkka who's trying to annoy you with X marks the spot. Just Eul him at the right time and he'll be stuck with you and your team.
To sum things up. Eul's Scepter of Divinity is definitely one of the most useful items in Dota 2. Get it for additional crowd control, to dispel yourself or an enemy or simply land your own insane combo.
