The league stage of the first Dota Pro Circuit season for 2021 is almost through. Let's look at what was popular, what worked, and what didn't in terms of heroes.
Five out of the six competitive regions are taking a well-deserved break before the Singapore Major which is set for the end of March. China is the only region that has yet to determine which teams will make it to the major and by the end of this week it'll all become clear. Here are some of the most popular heroes in the first season of the DPC 2021 so far!
The Most Played Heroes in DPC 2021 Season 1
Out of the 120 heroes (technically 119 since Hoodwink is still not available in Captain's Mode), there were some that really stood out. The two heroes who have been picked over 200 times are:
- Void Spirit
- Puck
Why? Generally, both heroes are a safe choice with not a lot of counters. They're hard to catch due to their high mobility and offer plenty of burst damage. Puck's crowd control is superior thanks to Dream Coil but once Void Spirit gets Aghs he can easily silence the whole enemy team.
Other popular picks throughout the season included:
- Wraith King
- Mars
- Earth Spirit
- Rubick
- Nyx Assassin
- Shadow Shaman
- Keeper of the Light
- Death Prophet
- Earthshaker
- Monkey King
- Tidehunter
- Beastmaster
- Batrider
- Oracle
- Witch Doctor
- Tusk Phoenix
- Nature's Prophet
- Troll Warlord
- Ursa
All of these have been picked over 100 times during the last 6 weeks but their success varied greatly. This brings us to our next topic.
Heroes With the Highest Win Rates in DPC 2021 Season 1
To make the list shorter and more comprehensive we'll exclude heroes that were barely picked. A good example is Huskar who has been played only in two games and currently has 100% win rate. Let's put 30 games as the bare minimum. Here are the top 10 heroes with the highest win rate:
- Kunkka (36 games, 24 wins, 12 losses) - 66.67%
- Phantom Lancer (45 games, 29 wins, 16 losses) - 64.44%
- Phoenix (107 games, 68 wins, 39 losses) - 63.55%
- Dragon Knight (38 games, 24 wins, 14 losses) - 63.16%
- Beastmaster (119 games, 72 wins, 47 losses) - 60.50%
- Earthshaker (137 games, 82 wins, 55 losses) - 59.85%
- Wraith King (185 games, 110 wins, 75 losses) - 59.46%
- Enchantress (69 games, 40 wins, 29 losses) - 57.97%
- Oracle (113 games, 65 wins, 48 losses) - 57.52%
- Tidehunter (124 games, 71 wins, 53 losses) - 57.26%
It's important to note that the two most picked ones from above are also sitting over 50%. Void Spirit is at 55.36% while Puck is a bit lower at 53.81%. Still, considering their pick rates it's amazing.
Heroes With the Lowest Win Rates in DPC 2021 Season 1
Where there are winners there must be losers. Here are the 10 heroes with the least success (once again a minimum of 30 games):
- Riki (51 games, 17 wins, 34 losses) - 33.33%
- Legion Commander (32 games, 11 wins, 21 losses) - 34.38%
- Undying (71 games, 25 wins, 46 losses) - 35.21%
- Grimstroke (141 games, 50 wins, 91 losses) - 35.46%
- Ursa (103 games, 38 wins, 65 losses) - 36.89%
- Templar Assassin (32 games, 12 wins, 20 losses) - 37.50%
- Lina (36 games, 14 wins, 22 losses) - 38.89%
- Weaver (59 games, 23 wins, 36 losses) - 38.98%
- Invoker (65 games, 27 wins, 38 losses) - 41.54%
- Slark (37 games, 16 wins, 21 losses) - 43.24%
There are also some heroes without a single victory, but these have been picked only a few times:
- Visage
- Tinker
- Meepo
- Pudge
- Spectre
- Techies
Thank god Techies and Pudge aren't popular in the pro scene. The pubs should be safe for now. What do you think of the competitive meta? Drop us a line on Facebook or Twitter!
