Team Secret, considered by many the best Dota 2 team in the scene, were knocked down to the lower bracket of ESL One Germany 2020 by mudgolems.
ESL One Germany may have only a few days remaining, but the event is still full of surprises. Yesterday, it presented something not many players expected. Team Secret, the favorites to take the event and pretty much any other Dota 2 tournament in the region, lost. They didn’t just lose, Secret got stomped by mudgolems who took the series with a clean 2-0.
With OG and Team Nigma leaving ESL One Germany early the number of teams that can challenge Team Secret was drastically lowered. At least that’s what we thought. Mudgolems proved everyone wrong with the amazing series they pulled off against the best team in Europe. The underdogs closed game one with a 50k gold lead and it proved to be a statement for game two. In the second match, things were quite even until Secret made a fatal mistake during a team fight which proved to be their last. Mudgolems were quick to capitalize upon realizing that the enemy carry has no buyback and wasted no time ending the series.
The mudgolems roster is definitely no joke as it features some very experienced Dota 2 players:
- Oliver "skiter" Lepko
- Duško "BoraNija" Boranijaševic
- Neta "33" Shapira
- Milan "MiLAN" Kozomara
- Adrian "Fata" Trinks
During the group stage, mudgolems lost to Team Liquid and won against Nigma, Na’Vi and Cyber Legacy. Expectations for the stack weren’t that high, but with their victory against Secret, all of that is about to change. Mudgolems are the only team in the ESL One Germany 2020 Playoffs without an organization. After taking down one of the best teams in Dota 2, that will probably change soon.
Team Secret’s long win streak is finally over but that team isn’t out yet. They’re now in the lower bracket of the event and their next opponent will be Alliance. In the meantime, mudgolems will fight it out with Na’Vi in the upper bracket finals for a slot in the big finale.
