ESL One Germany 2020 is one of the biggest Dota 2 events of the past month and it’s already in its playoffs. Only six teams remain, and Secret are still the favorites for the title.
It's almost November, but there’s no new Dota 2 competitive season. Thankfully, there are still plenty of third-party events to go around. DOTA Summit 13 kicked off last week in the Americas and SEA. In the meantime, ESL One Germany 2020 is still underway in Europe and set to end on November 1.
ESL One Germany 2020 Playoffs: Six Teams Remain
The Dota 2 ESL tournament offered plenty of surprises in the group stage where we saw Team Nigma lose to underdogs Yellow Submarine. The surprises didn’t end there as we witnessed even more twists and turns in the playoffs. Eight teams made it to the final stage:
- Team Secret
- OG
- Alliance
- mudgolems
- Team Liquid
- Natus Vincere
- Team Nigma
- Vikin.gg
All of the series in round one of the playoffs are already behind us and two of the teams above are already eliminated. You’ll never guess which ones!
Team Nigma was quite unfortunate to face Secret in their first series and the outcome was quite expected. Despite that, Nigma managed to take a game off Secret, something that not many teams can say. In the lower bracket, Nigma faced Team Liquid and managed to get a lead with a victory in the first game. The following two games didn’t go so well mainly due to some interesting drafting choices and both were won by Liquid. This put an end to Nigma’s run in the event, placing them 7-8th in the overall standings.
OG’s first opponent in the playoffs was Na’Vi. The legendary organization signed the roster of FlyToMoon not too long ago and this was their big test. While OG were the definite favorites to take the series and maybe challenge Team Secret nothing played out as we expected. Natus Vincere took the series 2-1. After getting knocked down to the lower bracket, OG faced Alliance and lost 0-2. OG may have won The International twice but they are out of ESL One Germany 2020.
Liquid and Alliance await their next rivals in the lower bracket. Team Secret will go against mudgolems at 17:00 PM CET and Na’Vi will face Vikin.gg at 20:00 CET in the upper bracket tomorrow, October 28. You can catch the official live stream on ESL’s Twitch channel.
With Nigma and OG out of the way, who’ll stand up to Team Secret? Will we finally get a nice underdog story with Vikin.gg or mudgolems? Share your opinion on our Facebook page!
