Yesterday Ninjas in Pyjamas announced that their Dota 2 team is no more. According to the organization, it’s only a temporary setback as they aim to return but will we see them in Europe again?
Ninjas in Pyjamas, one of the most famous esports organizations, have parted ways with their Dota 2 team. The NiP Dota 2 division is officially no more. The news came directly from the team’s official website.

Ninjas in Pyjamas COO, Jonas Gundersen commented:
This year has taken a massive toll on what was already an unstable ecosystem. With the indefinite postponement of the DPC and The International, we find ourselves on an increasingly unclear path to financial stability within the game. We’re seeing a high concentration of talent in the EU region, meaning that the cost of keeping up is markedly higher while revenues are dwindling. Ninjas in Pyjamas is one of the most iconic teams in the world - competing for the biggest trophies is a core part of our DNA, and the road to that through EU is simply not viable at this point. Because of that, we have decided to shut down our DotA2 department in its current format, and rethink our strategy and regional presence completely.A special thanks goes to our players who have worked hard to improve, and taken positively to all our ideas on how to rethink the current way of approaching DotA2. It’s an incredibly talented group of players who I have no doubt will go far. I wish them the very best of luck.
While the DPC was really postponed for quite some time Valve recently announced that the pro season is set to return in January 2021. NiP’s statement clearly shows us that competition in Europe is still the highest. Whether the organization plans to switch return to North America where they’ve previously played remains to be seen.
NiP signed the roster of Chicken Fighters back in April and they’ve been lacking results for the better part of the year. The team consisted of:
- Charlie "CharlieDota" Arat
- Ondřej "Supream^" Štarha
- Jonáš "SabeRLight-" Volek
- Adrian "Era" Kryeziu
- Akbar "SoNNeikO" Butaev
Their best placements were at the BTS Pro Series Season 3: Europe/CIS and DOTA Summit 13 Online: Europe & CIS where they reached 3rd and 3-4th place respectively.
