Dota 2 received another update yesterday and it's not a balance patch but the Spring 2021 Dota Plus Update. As expected, it brings changes to the Dota Plus subscription service, a new treasure, and more.
Valve's MOBA hit is experiencing a spike in popularity but it's not quite translated into higher player numbers. The game is about to get its own animated series with Dragon's Blood, which already got its official trailer. In addition, Valve released the Spring Update 2021 for Dota Plus. Here's everything you need to know!
What's in the Spring Update 2021?
The last time we saw an update specifically dedicated to Dota Plus was at the start of Winter. The latter added the grandmaster tier, a new treasure, seasonal quests, and guild rewards. So what's in the Spring Update 2021? More of the same!
Hero Relics Update
Dota Plus Hero Relics now let you earn bonus Hero XP by increasing their stat values. Each Hero Relic gains a level whenever you reach a certain value for that specific stat. For example, Axe’s “Enemies Culled” Relic will level up every 50 times you kill an enemy with Culling Blade. When a Relic levels up, you will see an in-game overhead toast showing off the stat, and you will also gain Hero XP. Common Relics grant 5 Hero XP per level up, and Rare Relics grant 30 Hero XP per level up.We’ve also revamped Hero Relic purchasing. You now have the choice to buy random Common Relics for 1,600 Shards or random Rare Relics for 8,000 shards. Regardless of type, you will no longer receive duplicates while purchasing.
You'll have an easier way of grinding experience to level up your hero and getting relics for your mains. Don't forget that it's Dota Plus exclusive, so you'll have to be subscribed to the service to get all the benefits. Players without Dota Plus can only level up each hero to level 5.
Turbo Update
If you wanted to level up your hero relics/hero, but you prefer Turbo games, we have some good news for you: It's finally possible! We wonder why Valve didn't do it even earlier.
We know that some players prefer the faster pace of Turbo matches, so we’ve enabled both Hero Relics and Hero Challenges in that mode. Hero Relics will gain progress during Turbo matches at half the rate of normal Dota matches, and players can earn up to 1 star for Hero Challenges.

- Slark
- Lich
- Broodmother
- Sand King
- Drow Ranger
- Pugna
- Juggernaut
- Magnus
It also includes the very rare courier Mango the Newt.
Updated Seasonal Quests & Guild Rewards
Much like the previous update in winter, fans can now complete a new series of quests that will net in a total of 115,200 shards throughout the season. The guild rewards have also been swapped out with the following:
