EA Sports announced the 2019 Team of the Year recently and buzz surrounding it doesn’t seem to be dying down. EA released special player cards for the twelve men selected in the squad but didn’t stop there.
They opted for the “show, don’t tell” strategy and unleashed a video of the ten best goals scored with Team of the Year players, just in case you’ve doubted these cards’ potency. The goals themselves were provided by community users and display the dazzling skill accumulated in this year’s TOTY.
Paris Saint-Germain star Kylian Mbappé is the most frequently seen player in this top 10, scoring three of the ten goals, including the top selection. The sole African on the team – Sadio Mané, makes a couple of appearances, while the remaining goals all have different scorers.
Kevin de Bruyne, Trent Alexander-Arnold, Lionel Messi, N’Golo Kanté and Frenkie de Jong all pop up once. This is a well-spread out list as the only players that didn’t make the cut are the three remaining defenders, the goalkeeper and Cristiano Ronaldo who was added later on as a 12th man and thus was left out of the process entirely.
The goals were ranked as follows:
- Kylian Mbappé
- Sadio Mané
- Lionel Messi
- N’Golo Kanté
- Kylian Mbappé
- Frenkie de Jong
- Trent Alexander-Arnold
- Kylian Mbappé
- Kevin de Bruyne
- Sadio Mané
We’re also fans of “show, don’t tell”, so instead of attempting to describe the indescribable, here’s the original Twitter video, where you can see the Team of the Year magic with your own eyes:
