To understand the Black Widow post-credit scene, we need to point some events of the previous MCU movies.
From the outset, you should keep in mind that Black Widow the film is a prequel and takes place between the movies Captain America: Civil War and Avengers: Infinity War. Therefore, you always know that Natasha will be safe in every fight scene she engages in. What you should also already know if you are an MCU fan, is that Natasha sacrifices herself in End Game, so Hawkeye can walk away with the Soul Stone. Therefore, allowing the Avengers to eventually kill Thanos, the big bad wolf of the final Avengers movie.
A kind of sad nostalgia looms over the film as the invincible Natasha on-screen, is actually fated to die tragically in the end.
What Happens in Black Widow's Post-Credit Scene?
The entire run time of Black Widow stays firmly in the past, and we get nothing more than this story about Natasha. However, the movie’s post-credit scene jumps us to the present day of the MCU timeline. We see Yelena Belova and her dog Fanny visit Natasha’s grave in the post-credit scene. Suddenly, another character in the MCU appears, the one and only Valentina Allegra de Fontaine played by Julia Louis-Dreyfus. 90’s kids will know her as Elaine from the massively successful sitcom Seinfeld, or more recently, from HBO’s Veep.
But what does it all mean? Well, it turns out Valentina Allegra de Fontaine has a vendetta against Hawkeye and this sets the scene for a possible Hawkeye movie or TV series featuring this new character Yelena Belova. Possibly a new movie with the likes of Hawkeye and Fontaine in a future MCU project. Valentina Allegra de Fontaine was a former agent of S.H.I.E.L.D. and pretty much an older, more badass version of Natasha. You can see more of Fontaine in The Falcon and the Winter Soldier TV series on Disney if you wamt to know more about her.
