Our EarlyGame artist of the day is Krekhaus. Here's a brief introduction for you, and a sample of their work. Enjoy!
Krekhaus is a four-piece rock / punk band based in Bulgaria. The band just made its debut on the international showcase scene performing at Waves Vienna (Austria) and Norrkoping Music Days (Sweden) in September 2021 and the Mondo NYC festival in New York in October 2021. The band is also scheduled to perform at Future Echoes (Sweden) in February 2022.Based in Sofia, Bulgaria, the band developed its sound, experimenting with standard rock vocabulary borrowing influences from jazz, swing and the classics. Krekhaus have two releases - a 5-track EP "Odd One Out" (2018) and the 14-track LP "Gutenachtstraße" which came out the beginning of 2021. They are currently working on their next EP, scheduled for 2022.
“[Krekhaus' songs] bring back memories of Blackmore's riffs, Hendrix' solos, the Beatles' modulations, James Brown's funk and on and on. Trip hop, hip hop, jazz and stoner rock. The components are many. Maybe we should just call them fusion and be done with it. But that will still not be sufficient to describe properly their style.”
(Sofia Breathes Festival)
“When you’re listening to [Krekhaus], you can imagine the world upside down, you can picture it stretched out, even heretically flat. They give you a sense of limitless freedom and peace of mind. […] they won’t leave your mind wandering off; in that precise moment they would crack the Led Zeppelin psychedelia and you’d be shaken to the core.”
(Radio Tangra)
“…sincerity and genuineness, a tidal wave of music and poetry that offer people who have come to one of their concerts a two-hour getaway from the hustle and bustle of the everyday.”
(MusicTour)

- Yavor Milchev - bass guitar

Gaming and Music
What is your favorite video game soundtrack?
The soundtrack for The Last of Us (part 1, 2013). That’s the most recent one anyway. Other favorite soundtracks include God of War (2018) and The Witcher III.
Who's your favorite video game music composer?
Gustavo Santaolalla — predictable considering the answer to the previous question, but his work inspired the new direction we went for when recording our first long-playing album.
What’s your favorite video game?
Half-Life. Forever.
What game inspired you to do music?
Last of Us — it hasn’t inspired us to become musicians per se, the inspirations have been many ranging from Beethoven to Metallica — but it did inspire us for the mood of our entire first album.
What video game are you currently playing?
Far Cry 6 (this is our guitarist’s current obsession), FIFA (our bass player and drummer often play it together), Counter-Strike (our lead singer’s go-to choice and has been for a while).
Would you ever like to write music for video games? What would it be like?
Resounding yes! It would depend on the genre of the game, of course, but experimentation with cinematic soundscapes and dynamic storytelling through music is a welcome challenge for every musician.
How important is music for video games / video games for music?
Music is an important backbone to telling a story because of the emotional connection it creates. Recently, games are getting more and more cinematic and more immersive than ever, so music is key. Now more than ever, music and sound design are an emotional pillar and a gateway to whole new worlds ready for exploration.
That was our interview with Krekhaus, enjoy!
