As part of a new initiative, eBay will ban the sale of mature content including adult video games on July 15. We have all the details.
Depending on where you live, eBay might be the place to go when you're looking for a new purchase or trying to get rid of one yourself. This week eBay announced it'll be making some serious changes and restricting the type of products that can be sold on the online platform.
No Mature Content & Adult Video Games on eBay
From July 15 onward, you won't be able to find any adult content on eBay as the company plans to remove the adult category as a whole. Under it fall things like books, anime, magazines, comics, art, and even video games. You can find a detailed blog post that lists what's prohibited and what's not on the official website. If you have any listings of adult content by June 15, the site will start to remove them.
So which games are banned? You'd think that it's only titles that are strictly sexual and show nudity, but the real factor is the rating - X, XXX, R18, or unrated for an adults-only audience. The region you're in also matters.
You don't usually see games with an adults-only restriction as it's more of an exception rather than the rule. Some titles that come to mind are:
- Leisure Suit Larry: Magna Cum Laude
- GTA: San Andreas
- Manhunt 2
- Hatred
As we've mentioned, the region is also important as games rated with R18 won't be banned in Australia. Disco Elysium earned that rating recently with the latest DLC, otherwise, it'd have been on the list. You'd think that gory titles like Mortal Kombat games and Red Dead Redemption would also get the boots, but both of those games are rated Mature 17+ so they're safe.
