During one of his recent broadcasts, popular Twitch streamer Hasan detailed how the Hogwarts Legacy boycott is not going to work and critics were not happy about that.
Hogwarts Legacy has divided the Twitch community, regarding whether streamers should play the game on their channels or not. Now, Hasan "HasanAbi" Piker chimed in on the topic, explaining how boycotting the game won't change a thing, as people are going to play the game regardless.
The game was already controversial before it released, as the franchise is always associated with the author of the original work, J.K. Rowling, who is widely considered as a trans-exclusionary radical feminist (TERF) due to multiple transphobic comments online.
People online therefore started calling for a boycott of the game, as to not support an anti-trans spokesperson.
This caused a big uproar as popular streamers declared their intent to play the game and led to some streamers getting harassed for playing the game.

The harassment didn't stop streamers from playing the game though and within the very first week of Hogwarts Legacy being available for people to play, it hit 1.3 million viewers on Twitch.
Hasan Explains Why A Boycott of Hogwarts Legacy Is Not Going To Work
During his broadcast on February 8, the popular political commentator explained why he doesn't believe the boycott is going to have a big impact, even though he empathizes with the protesters.
During his bit, Hasan explains how the demand to not play the game is so marginal, that people don't consider taking the boycott serious.
“That’s just it, because it’s so meaningless in the grand scheme of things. It is. So the very fact that you’re asking for such a tiny thing, in and of itself, is perhaps half the reason people are not taking it seriously”.
This seems like a lose-lose situation, though, because if you ask for something small, they won't take it seriously, but if you ask for something huge, they're not going to be willing to do it.
This ties into the second and pretty depressing argument: “The other half is because, and this is the sad and scary state of affairs, is that people don’t care about trans people.”
Hasan previously stated that he is not going to play Hogwarts Legacy, pretty much boycotting the game himself, due to having a massive LGBTQ audience and all the harassment this would entail.
Not playing the game and being empathetic with the protesters doesn't protect him from the backlash, though, as his explanation on why the boycott will remain fruitless prompted people to lash out at him as well.
What is the point of being a socialist influencer if ur gonna do nothing but shrug every time a social movement requires u to do more than write a check to a charity be serious https://t.co/K0Ji3kRwbD

In the comments and retweets, Hasan gets called out for not doing enough, despite collecting huge amounts of donations for charities and constantly talking about sensitive topics on stream.
His idea of coordinating a massive trans charity push was considered a bad idea and was shot down, but what else is he supposed to do, besides using his influence?
