Moonage Hookers are a subversive French band, currently based in Belgium. They make some bizarre music, so we naturally asked them about video games.
Since 2017, Moonage Hookers have been playing in Paris concert halls – including Bus Palladium, Le Truskel, Super Sonic, and L'International. They recently moved to Belgium and recently played at Rock Classic. They've also got an upcoming date at Le Lac as well.
Moonage Hookers advocate for the freedom to think, act, and to transgress. Their music distills cosmic melodies, tinged with powerful solos and lyrical flights, designed to burst your neurons like bubble wrap. Nowhere is this more evident than in their song "The Running Man" which actively speaks up against Government power and over-reach.
Moonage Hookers will inspire you to vibrate, forget, enjoy, love and feel. After their first EP in November 2018, 2 singles released in 2021, and a series of concerts in Paris (Gibus, Supersonic, Truskel, L’International..), Moonage Hookers is back with a brand new EP in 2022. Honestly, it's pretty solid, you should check it out.
Naturally, we decided to ask them a few questions about music and video games. Here's what they had to say...
What is your favourite video game soundtrack?
The Legend of Zelda, Ocarina of Time or Kingdom Hearts II. What a difficult choice!
Who's your favourite video game music composer?
Definitely Nobuo Uematsu. It's crazy how complex his creations can get. So many details, absolutely everywhere. No matter how many times you listen to them, you always discover something new, somewhere in the background.
What’s your favourite video game?
Music is one of the pillars to create a good game. So, obviously, I'd say The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time or Kingdom Hearts II!
What game inspired you to do music?
Probably Grand Theft Auto San Andreas. The hours spent driving a stolen car with the radio on made me discover a lot of awesome tracks I didn't know of.
What video game are you currently playing?
The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess and I'm currently a Holy Priest in World of Warcraft Shadowlands.
Would you ever like to write music for video games? What would it be like?
We compose music with pictures in our head. We love having strong storytelling, so I think that it would match perfectly with the requirements of a game. This past summer we made our way into the gaming community, mostly e-sports. Personally, I'm part of an e-sport organization named "BRAV'CORSAIRES" which grows more and more every day

How important is music for video games / video games for music?
As important as the gameplay or the story. A good story needs good music to reach you deep within and immerse your entire brain into the game.
