Magic: The Gathering recently released an official Lord of the Rings expansion. The 001/001 serialized One Ring card has now been found, and it's been valued at over $2,000,000. This exceeds even the value of the most expensive Alpha Black Lotus known to exist.
The popular collectable card game Magic: The Gathering has released an official Lord of the Rings expansion. Besides the well-known and (partly) beloved characters from the fellowship like Gandalf, Frodo and Aragorn, there are of course artifacts. The Wizards of the Coast forged three (Sol-)Rings, for the Elven-kings under the sky, seven for the Dwarf-lords in their halls of stone and nine for the mortal men doomed to die. But also The One Ring.
The One Ring Was Found And Is Worth Millions
The regular version of The One Ring card is pretty powerful itself.
IndestrucibleWhen The One Ring enters the battlefield, if you cast it, you gain protection from everything until your next turn.At the beginning of your upkeep, you lose 1 life for each burden countert on The One Ringtap: Put a burden counter on The One Ring, then draw a card for each burdencounter on The One Ring
But the reason this particular copy of the One Ring is so valuable is because it's serialized 001/001, which means it's effectively the original (or at least most valuable) version of the One Ring in MTG. Of course, it's written in Tengwar characters, but uses the Black Speech of Sauron. The card was illustrated by Veli Nyström, a concept artist and illustrator from Finland. It received lots of praise and is considered close to being "virtually perfect" with a mint 9-grade ranking.
This exceptionally rare card has been found in June, as it was revealed on Twitter. First, by Hipsters of the Coast, who shared the link to the certification of the card, soon followed by the official Magic: The Gathering account:
One Ring to rule them all, One Ring to find them, One Ring to bring them all and in the Darkness bind them.We are thrilled to hear tale of a new Ring-bearer in possession of the serialized 1:1 The One Ring! This journey is finished, but the adventure with #MTGxLOTR's continues! pic.twitter.com/nlKqJ02Qqk

The first bearer of The One Ring wished to stay anonymous for the longest time and see how high offers would get – it was worth it, apparently.
According to Dexerto, a Spanish gaming store, Gremio de Dregones, is offering $2.1 million for The One Ring. Which makes 001 copy of The One Ring the single most expensive Magic card ever!
Post Malone Will Rule Us All
The one who got The One Ring in the end is none other than rapper Post Malone. He's a proud MTG fan and seems quite happy with his new possession, as the original bearer Brook Trafton shared on Twitter:
This is my dream come true, meeting @PostMalone and him buying the One Ring card from me is literally a moment straight out of a fairytale. @PostMalone @wizards_magic you've changed my life. Things like this don't happen to people like me. Forever grateful #mtg #onering pic.twitter.com/VMBlDA1HdD

While there were no prices dropped and one could only guess how much exactly The One Ring was worth to Post Malone, both men seemed quite happy with the deal. Seems like a possible $2.1 million face to me, though!
The most expensive card before that has been (for as long as I can remember) the Black Lotus, the centerpiece of the Power Nine. In fact, an alpha version of the Black Lotus sold for $615,000 in recent years. But you could in fact buy all 15 of the most expensive MTG cards for the price of The One Ring and still have over $800,000 left.
