Oppenheimer just had its UK premiere, when the cast staged a joint walkout in support of the SAG-AFTRA strike.
Oppenheimer is one of the most anticipated movies of 2023. Christopher Nolan's historic war epic deals with the consequences of our decisions and the morality of war. Apparently the cast had their own morality as well, as they organized a joint walkout during the premiere event in London, showing their support for the strike of the Screen Actors Guild (SAG).
With 20,000 members of the Writers Guild of America (WGA) and now another 160,000 SAG members, Hollywood and streaming services like Netflix, Disney+ etc. will be hard-pressed to produce anything at all with this strike going on.
Oppenheimer Cast Join SAG Strike Instead Of Attending Movie Premiere
During the premiere event of Oppenheimer in London, the star-studded cast suddenly went missing, after making an appearance on the red carpet.
Turns out, they left the event before the screening to join their colleagues as part of the SAG strike that started that day.
Christopher Nolan says the cast of #Oppenheimer left the premiere to 'go and write their pickets' and join the strike pic.twitter.com/rc2SaSxcfk

After praising the cast for their incredible work on the movie, Nolan continued to explain their absence.
Unfortunately, they are off to write their picket signs for what we believe to be an imminent strike by SAG, joining one of my guilds, the Writers Guild, in the struggle for fair wages for working members of their union.
With the SAG and the WGA joining hands in the fight for better wages and against unrestricted use of AI, Hollywood will not be able to ignore their pleas anymore.
Hopefully this will lead to an agreement soon, but considering how long the WGA has been protesting their working conditions so far, Hollywood doesn't easily budge.

So I guess we gotta expect some more delays for most Hollywood productions!
With Netflix being affected as well, maybe The Witcher season 4 will be delayed as well?
